As if the North of Spain couldn't get any better, we're introduced to Picos De Europa, the first National Park in Spain known in English as the Peaks of Europe. The highlight of the park could be the views, the greenery or the full blown wildlife floating around - but it's all about the glacial lakes. Theres 2 enormous glacial lakes at the peak, or there abouts, the National Park that really have to be seen to be believed.
Heading to Picos De Europa from Asturias was a pretty easy trip and a nice day of travel through the mountains. In this vlog we also travel to Gijon, a popular Spanish coastal town. The Peaks of Europe are obviously massive and take up a lot of ground, so having a car to explore and visit Gijon in the same day was vital.
This was our first time seeing the North of Spain and we loved it - it feels untapped, there's less people, less tourism and so much more to appreciate without the hustle. For a full read on what to do with 48 hours in Asturias check out our blog post:

COVADONGA, THE HEART OF ASTURIAS - ASTURIAS (ESPAÑA - SPAIN)
Cangas de Onís was the first capital of the Kingdom of Asturias from which most of the important symbols of the Principality originate and it is also one of the favourite places for tourism in the region.
Based at the foot of the Picos de Europa and an entrance to the “Royal Site” of Covadonga, Cangas de Onís is one of the main gateways into this mountainous region. From here you can also enjoy the beaches of the eastern coastline of Asturias as it is just a short journey away by car.
Nowadays Covadonga is a place of pilgrimage for the devotees of the Virgin of Covadonga, known locally as “La Santina”. The statue of “la Santina” is housed in a Cave built into the rock surrounded by waterfalls. This together with the basilica which is a beautiful pink stone church makes this historic and religious site a place of peace, beauty and spirituality.

Catalan cuisine is internationally renowned for achieving a difficult balance between innovation and tradition, through the work of chefs like Joan Roca, Carme Ruscalleda, Santi Santamaria and, above all, Ferran Adrià, who from the kitchens of El Bulli restaurant revolutionised the world gastronomy scene. Behind the cuisine of Catalonia today lies the story of a country, a land, a way of being and of doing things. That is why it has been nominated for recognition by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity. In addition to its many restaurants of all kinds, Catalonia has a network of public markets where product quality is paramount, and a number of groups of restauranteurs dedicated to promoting the cuisine typical of each area, working with the two terms of territory and product. The Industrial Revolution in the Iberian Peninsula began in Catalonia, which became one of the most industrially dynamic regions of Europe. The new steam-based industry brought changes to manufacturing processes, transportation systems and even to the way workers lived. These changes can be seen in numerous examples of industrial heritage conserved in Catalonia, located around the Llobregat and Ter rivers. In Catalonia, the modernist art movement is closely associated with the Industrial Revolution. The modernist imprint is evident in factories like the Vapor Vell de Sants in Barcelona (one of the first in Catalonia), the Anís del Mono factory in Badalona, and the Freixenet Cava winery in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. One of the most characteristic elements of Catalan industrial heritage are its textile factory colonies, located in rural areas by the river. Some examples are Colonia Güell in Santa Coloma de Cervelló, the Viladomiu colonies in Gironella, and the Borgonyà colony in Sant Vicenç de Torelló. These small villages have all the services necessary for the workers, dedicated exclusively to the factory and their families.
