EXPLORE MEXICO: Hidden Tropical Paradise - Catemaco Veracruz

In this episode of EXPLORE MEXICO, enjoy this peaceful Sunday morning in the hidden tropical paradise found in Catemaco, Veracruz.

In this travel video, you will NOT see any foreign tourists.

What you WILL see is real Mexican life unfolding on a weekend morning in this lakeside town.

Catemaco is located 100 miles / 160 km south of the city of Veracruz. It takes about 3 hours by car and 3.5 hours by public bus.

Catemaco is located in what's known as the Los Tuxtlas region of the state of Veracruz. Adjacent to it is the 4th largest lake in Mexico; Lake Catemaco. Pristine Gulf of Mexico beaches are found about one hour from the town.

English is rarely spoken here.

Very few foreign travelers find this tropical hideaway. Very few travel agents or other tour companies have discovered this place for their clients.

Catemaco is geared for the intrepid and adventurous traveler.

There are small 2-3 star hotels and simple locally owned restaurants. Nothing fancy here.

Nearby is tropical rain forests with many hidden streams and beautiful waterfalls.

LAGUNA MILAGROS MEXICO (2018)

Laguna Milagros Mexico

Another day another adventure. Made it down to Laguna Milagros Mexico from a 20 peso bus ride from Chetumal. It had amazing blues in the water and was so refreshing to swim in.

This Laguna is not really known for being really busy like the Bacalar lagoon but that makes it even more appealing to me. It was only a 10 minute walk from where the bus dropped you off at to where you go swimming. We were pretty much the only ones there doing any swimming beside a few locals later on in the day. It didnt bother me one bit, the peace and quite was awesome instead of the hustle and bustle of a tourist area.

I had a nice relaxing swim and eventually made the journey back to Chetumal for some dinner later on in the night.

El Arco de la Rosa y la Iglesia de San Juan Bautista, Marchena. Sevilla

La puerta de Sevilla de Marchena era una de las puertas de acceso con que contaba el perímetro amurallado de esta localidad, conocida popularmente como arco de la Rosa por una antigua leyenda basada en sucesos acaecidos en la Edad Media, hoy se cree que esta puerta pudo ser fruto del sistema de reformas que se llevó a cabo a partir de la bula otorgada por el papa Martín V , y que la entrada original del siglo XIII de la muralla, de construcción y período almohade, no se encontraba ubicada en este mismo lugar, sino algo más en el interior hacia el antiguo barrio de San Juan. La puerta de Sevilla de Marchena está catalogada como bien de interés cultural en la categoría de monumento, y así aparece inscrito en el Boletín Oficial del Estado de fecha 29 de junio de 1985.
La Iglesia de San Juan de Marchena es un templo consagrado a San Juan Bautista, es monumento Histórico Artístico y posee obras de gran interés por lo que fue declarado como Monumento Bien de Interés Cultural el 3 de junio de 1931, la Sacristía original de la iglesia, de planta rectangular, es ampliada en el primer tercio del s. XVII y es la propia Parroquia la que en 1634 realiza el encargo de nueve lienzos, para la decoración de dicha Sacristía, al pintor extremeño Francisco de Zurbarán, coincidiendo con su estancia en Sevilla realizando unos trabajos para la capital hispalense, es por tanto, la ubicación de una de las joyas que posee esta Iglesia, nos referimos al Museo de Zurbarán.
