Hartest is a small village in the Babergh district of the English county of Suffolk. It is located halfway between Bury St. Edmunds and Sudbury on the B1066 road in the Glem valley. Brockley is two miles north. The village of Hartest dates back to before 1086 and features in the Domesday Book. The name 'Hartest' is thought to mean either 'Stag Hill' or 'Stag Wood'. 1. Blickling Estate Blickling
Blickling is a village and civil parish in the Broadland district of Norfolk, England, about 1.5 miles north-west of Aylsham on the B1354 road. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 136 and covers 862 hectares , falling to 113 at the 2011 Census. Since the 17th century the village has been concentrated in two areas, around the church and also at the park gates of Blickling Hall. Most of the village is contained in the Blickling Estate, which has been owned by the National Trust since 1940.

Hartest, West Suffolk

Hartest lies in West Suffolk, in an area known as `High Suffolk` at the north-western extremity of Babergh district, on the B1066 and midway between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury. Hartest Hill is said to be the steepest hill in Suffolk and anyone who has walked, run or cycled up it would certainly agree. The larger villages of Glemsford, Lavenham and Long Melford are all within a six mile radius. The adjoining hamlets of Boxted and Somerton are closely linked with Hartest. A small river flows through Hartest from its source in Somerton.

The Green is at the heart of the village. Close to the Green are the medieval parish church of All Saints, the primary school, the Hartest and Boxted Institute, the doctors' surgery and the Crown public house. A butcher's shop and the village garage also face the Green.

Holywells - A Park for People

The restoration of this historic park can be seen here. This is the first film with the second showing events and local people's thoughts and memories of the park. A DVD was created with chapters showing specific areas of the park. For further information please contact the Visitor Centre or The Friends of Holywells Park.

Holywells Park is a County Wildlife Site, a Conservation Area with two listed buildings – the Stable Block and Conservatory – and is on the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest. Holywells has been designated a Regionally Important Geodiversity Site (RIGS).
