Day Trip From Lima, Peru | Pachacamac Ruins + Peruvian Food Buffet + Peruvian Folk Dancing
Join us for a day trip from Lima, Peru as we head 40 kilometers outside of the city centre to visit the Pachacamac Ruins and Museum followed by a Peruvian food buffet at Dpaso Mamacona which also featured traditional Peruvian folklore dancing, music and horse performance.
Pachacamac located in the Valley of the Lurín River is named after the earth maker and flourished for 1,300 years before Spanish invasion. Some of the famous archeological structures include the pyramids and temple of the sun.
After visiting this site and the museum we head over to Dpaso Mamacona where we had an amazing Peruvian food buffet featuring appetizers, mains and desserts. During the meal we were entertained by Peruvian folklore dancing and music and following the meal we witnessed a horse performance.
Overall, it was a fantastic day trip from Lima and something we'd recommend if you've been in the city for a whole and you're looking for a change of scenery.

Day Trip From Lima, Peru | Pachacamac Ruins + Peruvian Food Buffet + Peruvian Folk Dancing Travel Video Transcript:
It is time for a day trip. We have been spending a lot of time in Lima. And today we finally convinced my Aunt to take us somewhere. It is nice of her to be honest. So we at Pachacamac. We drove maybe about an hour outside of Lima. It was a very short drive to be honest. So the plan is we're going to visit the museum of Pachacamac, then the ruins of Pachacamac. And then we are going to a show to see the Peruvian horses do the dance. It is like a horse show. It is kind of like the Peruvian gauchos right? It should be really cool. From what I've read we have a buffet. We have a Peruvian buffet for so we're going to be eating a lot of really good Peruvian food too. So basically three really awesome activities for the day. Let's get started.
Pachacamac is an archeological site that sits 40 kilometers southeast of Lima in the Lurin Valley. The archeological complex is made up of plazas, palaces and temple pyramids but our first stop was a museum to see some of the artifacts that have been found in the area.
A few quick facts before we start touring the ruins. So tickets we paid 15 Soles per person.
The earliest construction in Pachacamac date from the first century but that site reached its peak during the Wari Culture sometime around the 10th century. This was considered to be an important religious site and pilgrims would come to pay homage to their creator god Pachacamac. Who was associated with War and whose anger resulted in tremors and earthquakes.
We've left the ruins behind and arrived at Dpaso Mamacona.
This is my starter. I went for causa, some ceviche, tiradito and a few different salads.
I have potato with huancaina sauce which is really really good. I have causa which I also doused with that too which again is like soft potato inside. It is like a yellow potato shepherd's pie kind of. Inside you have avocado and meat. And then this was I forget the name of this one. Do you remember? Tiradito. Yes, it is fish with uh aji sauce. But a spicy yellow pepper sauce. You got octopus as well. Which is what is that one called again? Pulpo.

Museo Larco in Lima, Peru
The Museo Larco is a privately owned museum of pre-Columbian art, located in the Pueblo Libre District of Lima, Peru. The museum is housed in an 18th-century vice-royal building. It showcases chronological galleries that provide a thorough overview of 5,000 years of Peruvian pre-Columbian history. It is well known for its gallery of pre-Columbian erotic pottery.
In 1925, Rafael Larco Herrera acquired a collection of vases and other archaeological pieces from Alfredo Hoyle, who was his brother-in-law. There were approximately 600 ceramic pieces in all. The arrival of these objects ignited a collector's enthusiasm in his son, Rafael Larco Hoyle. Soon after, Larco Herrera left his son in charge of the collection and those pieces completed the first collection of what would become the Rafael Larco Herrera Museum.
During that same year, Larco Hoyle received some advice from his uncle, Victor Larco Herrera, a founder of the first museum in Lima. He urged Larco Hoyle to form a new museum in Lima, one that could guard all the archaeological relics that were continually being extracted by clandestine excavators.
Larco Hoyle agreed with his uncle and proceeded to create a museum that would carry on his father's legacy. Larco Hoyle purchased two large collections: 8,000 pieces from Roa and 6,000 pieces from Carranza. He also purchased several small collections in Chicama Valley, Trujillo, Virú, and Chimbote. Within a year, the collection had grown significantly and display cases were installed in a small house on the Chiclín estate. On July 28, 1926, Independence Day, the museum opened to the public as Museo Arqueológico Rafael Larco Herrera.
The Larco Museum now lends some of its collection to its daughter museum, the Museo de Arte Precolombino (Pre-Columbian Art Museum), located in Cusco, Peru.
The Museum has several permanent exhibitions. The Gold and Silver Gallery showcases the largest collection of jewelry used by many notable rulers of pre-Columbian Peru. It comprises a collection of crowns, earrings, nose ornaments, garments, masks and vases, finely wrought in gold and decorated with semi-precious stones. Ancient Peruvian cultures represented their daily lives in ceramics, and this gallery holds the world's largest collection of erotic ceramics.
The Cultures Gallery exhibits 10,000 years of Peruvian pre-Columbian history. This chronology-based gallery provides visitors with a comprehensive view of cultures that existed in pre-Columbian Peru through the extant indigenous art that has survived since the 16th century Spanish conquest. This hall is divided into four areas: North Coast, Center, South and cultures from the highlands. Showcases have been ordered according to cultural sequence:
From the North Coast: Cupisnique, Vicus, Mochica and Chimu;
From the Central Coast: Lima and Chancay;
From the South Coast: Paracas, Nazca and Chincha;
From the Highlands: Chavín, Tiahuanaco, Huari and Inca.
Other galleries include the Lithic, Vault, Ceramics, Metals, Textiles and Storage in which visitors have the opportunity to view the Museum's entire collection of classified archaeological objects.

This hall displays the selection of archaeological objects found by Rafael Larco Hoyle in the 1960s, as a result of his research on sexual representations in Peruvian pre-Columbian art, published in his book, Checan (1966).
The Larco Museum has 8 exhibition areas plus a unique look into their back storage area, where visitors can enter the museums classified area, and see over 45,000 arranged and catalogues items. The main exhibition areas are organized as follows:
Gold & Jewelry – Typical gold and metallic masks, jewelry and ornaments used for decorative purposes or offerings.
Vault – A selection of fine pieces and ornaments hand-crafted using gold, silver and semi-precious stones. The display includes earpieces, nose ornaments, headdress, pectorals, mini containers and masks.
Ceramics – This exhibition not only offers a comprehensive range of pre-Columbian ceramics, but also a didactic display of methods and tools used in the production of ancient ceramic pieces.
