England is the home to many beautiful villages – some of which are considered to be not only in England, but in the whole world as well. Always talking about the vibrant city life, we often tend to forget how amazing the countryside can be and this country proves us exactly that.
These ten villages offer something that is definitely worth seeing – cobblestone streets, stone cottages, medieval squares, castles and churches, all of these being surrounded by forests and in some cases even the sea. Not only you will get to taste the local cuisine and the breathtaking architecture, but you will also be stunned from the view you’ll get!
1. Bibury
Bibury is considered to be not only the most beautiful village in England, but one of the most beautiful villages in the world as well. It is located in Gloucestershire, in the Cotswold District. What makes this village that special is the famous architectural conservation area known as Arlington Row. Here you will find seventeenth century stone cottages with steeply pitched roofs surrounded by so much greenery!
2. Castle Combe
Located in Wiltshire, the village of Castle Combe has two parts – one on the narrow valley of By Brook, and the second is on the east, on a road that links Chippenham with Chipping Sodbury. The whole village is filled with stone cottages and you will feel like you went back to the medieval ages – you will find a 14th-century market cross, the 13th-century church St. Andrew and a picturesque bridge looking up on Water Street.
3. Lamberhurst
Lamberhurst lies in the valley of River Teise and is a home to the Scotney Castle, which is considered as one of the most romantic castles in England. The Scotney Castle is surrounded with moat and from here you can visit the 18th garden known as Sprivers Horsmonden. It makes the village of Lamberhurst oh-so romantic!
4. Clovelly
Surrounded by dense woodlands and the sea, Clovelly is known for its narrow, cobbled street which is also the main street in the village and leads to the harbor and Bideford Bay. All of the houses are painted white and many have colorful window boxes. What you’ll find here that you won’t see in any other English village is that in Clovelly there are donkeys that carry goods!
5. Mousehole
Mousehole is a tiny fishing village located in West Cornwall. The village is famous for its narrow streets filled with shops, galleries and restaurants. Here the cottages huddle together around the harbor’s inner edge and they’re giving away some old world charm that will make you want to stay here and enjoy the beauty of the fishing village.
6. Rye
A real medieval gem, Rye is located in Sussex and has a serious charm that you won’t resist. Cobbled streets, narrow passages and white-colored cottages with flowers and greenery at the front door is what makes this village wonderful. You will find art galleries, tearooms, pubs, antiques, book stores and artisan goods and make sure to visit Mermaid Street, famous for its very old buildings.
7. Hawkshead
Hawkshead is located in Cumbria and this tiny, ancient village has many tearooms, giftshoguest houses, so medieval and charming! Over the medieval years, the village grew as important market place and thatnks to that today there are buildings in Hawkshead dating from 17th century. Cars are not allowed in this village, but there are parking lots in the outskirts.
8. Bourton on the Water
Bourton-om the-Water is considered as one of the most beautiful English villages and there’s a reason for that – the village has plenty of greenery and the River Windrush runs through, giving the village an irresistible charm. No matter when are you planning to visit the Bourton-on the-Water, be assured that you’re visiting one of the most picturesque villages in the world!
9. Cockington
Located in the English county of Devon, the village of Cockington has a water mill, a forge and a cricket pitch that back in the medieval times used to be a deer park. There is also the Cockington Court that holds a rich event program, such as art and craft exhibitions, and there are also glassblowers and blacksmiths in action. Famour writer Agatha Christie used to come often to the Cockington Court and perform in plays.
10. Corfe Castle
This tiny village offers tranquility and an amazing view – Corfe Castle is the home to same called castle, or precisely to the remaining ruins of what used to be a royal castle in the medieval ages. It is situated on a natural hill guarding the principal route through the Purbeck Hills. There is also a medieval church that was dedicated to the murdered Kind Edwards. You can also find shops and pubs!

Shark attacks seem to be on the rise in many parts of the world, therefore, you might want to steer clear of the following known shark-infested waters. Statistically, these are among the most dangerous beaches for deadly shark attacks.
1. Pernambuco, Brazil
The shockingly high attack rate in these waters appears to be due to over-fishing. Without enough food supply, the sharks have begun to sample other forms of fare to satisfy their relentless hunger.
2. Second Beach, South Africa
The beach is popular among shark-seeking tourists and cage divers. Tour operators dump boatloads of bloody chum in the water order to entice the great whites. You definitely don’t want to surf or swim anywhere near these boats and their chum lines.
3. New Smyrna Beach, Florida
More than 238 shark attacks have been documented at Florida’s (surprisingly) popular New Smyrna Beach. In fact, 15% of worldwide shark bites have occurred here. Most of the bites are courtesy of baby bull sharks that favor these waters. To date, none of the recorded attacks here have been fatal.
4. Velzyland Beach, Hawaii
About 41 different shark species that frequent Hawaii’s waters including aggressive specimens like bull sharks and great whites. The last fatal shark attack at this beach occurred in 1994 when a tiger shark attacked a surfer. More recent attacks on surfers have been reported, but none fatal.
5. New South Wales, Australia
This region, which includes famous Bondi Beach, has recorded more than 170 unprovoked shark attacks and more than 50 fatal attacks, and great white shark encounters are more common here than in other parts of the world. Due to the position of the continental shelf, swimmers and surfers are in close proximity of deep waters where these potential predators cruise.
6. Fletcher Cove, California
Fletcher Cove may be picturesque, but it is also the scene of 142 unprovoked shark attacks, including some recent fatalities. Scientists are convinced that the fish-strewn waters in this region are ideal feeding grounds for large predators like the great white.
7. Reunion Island, Indian Ocean
This island has had more than 10 attacks in a recent two-year period, three being fatal. This has prompted island officials to close the beaches to swimmers and surfers. Experts aren’t sure why the sharks are biting people with greater frequency.
8. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Since 2005, there have been more than fifty attacks. In fact, researchers have claimed that South Carolina’s waters are just as dangerous as Florida’s when comparing the swimmer-to-attack ratio. Their waters are attractive to species like tiger sharks and bull sharks.
9. Coffin Bay, Australia
The name says it all. Don’t swim here unless you fancy a meeting with a great white. Recently an abalone diver was attacked and killed by two great white sharks. His body was never recovered.
10. Surf Beach, California
A nineteen-year-old surfer was attacked and killed a few years ago by a great white shark believed to be 18 feet in length. The waters here are home to seals, which attract great whites in large numbers.

October is a great time to travel and here are 5 of our top picks for the month.
The temperature is still in the late 20’s in October, so Marrakech is the perfect place to visit if you’re craving some October sun.
Head to a Hammam for a traditional Marrakech spa treatment, watch a belly dance or take a stroll in the stunning Jardin Majorelle.
Our favourite thing about Marrakech has to be the souks. Souk Semmarine is a great place to start. You’ll find ceramics, kaftans, traditional clothing and, of course, delicious Moroccan food.
From October 20th, Austria’s most important film event takes place inside some of the most beautiful cinemas in Vienna’s historic centre. Over 94,000 visitors descend on the film festival to watch a selection of over 300 films from across the globe!
While you’re in Vienna we recommend taking in the baroque streetscapes, and stopping by the Belvedere to visit the world’s largest collection of paintings by Gustav Klimt.
Golden week is China’s national holiday taking place from October 1st to the 7th, and for the whole week! Although it is peak tourist season, it’s also the time to join in the celebrations and explore what Beijing has to offer.
We’d recommend visiting the Forbidden City! It’s China’s largest and best-preserved collection of ancient buildings, and the largest palace complex in the world. It was off limits for 500 years but has been listed a Unesco World Heritage since 1987.
Every October people flock to the annual Notte Bianca event in the cityscape of Valletta, Malta!
The event is a huge celebration of people, culture and arts and is the perfect excuse to get a bit of October sun. The city’s museums, art galleries and other attractions are open free of charge, and you’ll find the city’s finest musicians, dancers and other creative geniuses lining the streets - it'll definitely be an unforgettable night for everyone.
For winter sun head to Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria, which is one of the island’s best beach and sun hot-spots. It’s only about 35 minutes south of the airport, passing the beautiful Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas on the way. It’s absolutely stunning.
The beautiful Amadores beach here is ideal for families or anyone who’s not a particularly strong swimmer. There are great harbour walls and sea defences that mean that the waves are tiny and the water’s nice and shallow.
However, our favourite thing to do here by far is dolphin watching. We took a tour and it did not disappoint, we saw a whole pod of dolphins swimming around our boat. It was amazing.
