Ely is a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, England, about 14 miles north-northeast of Cambridge and about 80 miles by road from London. Construction of the cathedral was started in 1083 by a Norman abbot, Simeon. Alan of Walsingham's octagon, built over Ely's nave crossing between 1322 and 1328, is the greatest individual achievement of architectural genius at Ely Cathedral, according to architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner. Building continued until the dissolution of the abbey in 1539 during the Reformation. The cathedral was sympathetically restored between 1845 and 1870 by the architect George Gilbert Scott. As the seat of a diocese, Ely has long been considered a city; in 1974, city status was granted by royal charter.
Ely is built on a 23-square-mile (60 km2) Kimmeridge Clay island which, at 85 feet (26 m), is the highest land in the fens. Major rivers including the Witham, Welland, Nene and Great Ouse feed into the fens and, until draining commenced in the 17th century, formed freshwater marshes and meres within which peat was laid down. There are two Sites of Special Scientific Interest in the city: a former Kimmeridge Clay quarry, and one of the United Kingdom's best remaining examples of medieval ridge and furrow agriculture.
Little direct evidence of Roman occupation in Ely exists, although there are nearby Roman settlements such as those at Little Thetford and Stretham. A coach route, known to have existed in 1753 between Ely and Cambridge, was improved in 1769 as a turnpike (toll road). The present day A10 closely follows this route; a southwestern bypass of the city was built in 1986. Ely railway station built in 1845 is on the Fen Line and is now a railway hub, with lines north to King's Lynn, northwest to Peterborough, east to Norwich, southeast to Ipswich and south to Cambridge and London.
The King's School is a coeducational boarding school which was granted a royal charter in 1541 by Henry VIII; the school claims to have existed since 970. Henry I granted the first annual Fair, Saint Audrey's (or Etheldreda's) seven-day event, to the abbot and convent on 10 October 1189; the word tawdry originates from cheap lace sold at this fair. Present day annual events include the Eel Festival in May, established in 2004, and a fireworks display in Ely Park, first staged in 1974. The city of Ely has been twinned with Denmark's oldest town, Ribe, since 1956. Ely City Football Club was formed in 1885.
Ely railway station, on the Fen Line, is a major railway hub with the Cambridge to Ely section opening in 1845. Five major railway lines—excluding the former Ely and St Ives Railway—emanate from this hub: north to King's Lynn, northwest to Peterborough, east to Norwich, southeast to Ipswich and south to Cambridge and London.

This is the first episode of my landscape photography series from Great Britain. In it we'll explore a few famous locations along the english coast. The white cliffs called The Seven Sisters, Old Harry Rocks and Durdle Door. I give a few tips and share my thoughts on photography along the way.

Spectacular Jurassic Coast in Dorset, United Kingdom - Timelapse Video - 4K
Jurassic Coast, World Heritage Site, stretches from East Devon to Old Harry Rocks near Swanage in East Dorset, a distance of 96 miles (154 km). Truly stunning coastline with rocks recording 185 million years of the Earth's history. Jurrasic Coast gets it name thanks to the millions of years of history imprinted into the towering cliffs along the coastline. We'll begin our tour in London, which is the capital of the United Kingdom and its largest city. The Tower of London served as a castle and later as a prison. St Paul's Cathedral is one of the most famous churches in London. It replaced another one, which was destroyed by the great fire of London.
We'll see special events such as horse drawn cannons at the Horse Guards Building. The Household Division has guarded British Royalty and the Palaces since the 17th century. It has 7 regiments - the Life Guards the Blues and Royals the Grenadier Coldstream Scots Irish and Welsh.
Flowers blossem around Buckingham Palace. This has been the London home of British royalty since 1837 when Queen Victoria ascended the throne. During her reign, Britain literally ruled the world, and this majestic palace is fit for a king or queen.
One of the best ways to get a panoramic view of the London is to take a ride on the British Airways London Eye. This Ferris wheel is stunning. At night you almost feel like you are on a space ship, which slowly floats above the city. On a clear sunny day you can see for 25 miles.
London has some great parks. St. James Park used to be private, but now it's open to the public. Its lake and tree lined paths were designed in the nineteenth century. Throughout the parks you'll find a wide range of wildlife including squirrels, ducks, pelicans and geese.
Make sure you join everyone else for afternoon tea with a wide range of teas and tasty scones, served with jam and clotted cream. Also try fish and chips - one of Britain's most famous dishes.
Oxford is the oldest university in Britain and one the best schools in the world. It has over 30 colleges, the largest of which is Christ Church. A deacon here was inspired to create Alice in Wonderland, the adventures of a young girl in an imaginary world. He used this story to entertain the Dean's boy and girl and other children.
William Shakespeare was the world's greatest playwright and Stratford upon Avon was his hometown. At the Royal Shakespeare Theater you can see excellent performances of his Plays, famous tragedies such as Romeo and Juliet, and Hamlet. Or see his comedies such as The Merchant of Venice.

Landscape Photography on The Jurassic Coast | The Photo Contest Winner
I got up for sunrise landscape photography on the Jurassic Coast, and announced the winner of the photo contest on today's vlog.

The Jurassic Coast is amazing. And, I had been looking forward to shooting some landscape photography at a location for sunrise.
However, this morning, my alarm didn't go off. Magically, I managed to get up anyways, and I did make it to my location in time for the surinse. And, to be fair, the light wasn't really good anyways.
My landscape photography location on the Jurassic Coast this morning was a place called Pulpit Rock which is near Portland Bill. The rock makes for a cool photo, but I think it would have been a bit better at sunset as it was a little bit backlit. Still, I managed to get some cool photos.
I also met another landscape photographer named Matt who was shooting some Large Format stuff on film. I love seeing people out shooting things like that. It takes photography to another level. And, by looking at his photography work on his instagram feed, he's really good.
The Jurassic Coast has been so much fun, but my trip here is really quick. It was kind of a weekend trip out of the city to shoot some landscape photos and explore some new locations. So, after shooting, I picked up @alajode and we made our way back to Kent.
We made one last stop on The Jurassic Coast before cutting through the New Forest and heading home.
In Kent, I announced the winner of my photo contest. It was actually really hard to pick a winner. There are so many good travel photographers out there, and there were so many cool images on the Trover site.
Tomorrow, I'm out exploring and doing some travel photography in Brighton Beach. I have a new tripod coming. So, that should be a fun vlog.
This photography channel has a few more episodes now coming out here in England, and then I'm off to Iceland for 10 days which should be awesome. Stay tuned.

Camping in gale force winds and dodging the storms, the video is an attempt to capture some of the best of Dorset - Thomas Hardy's Wessex.
The video includes the Swanage Railway, the island of Portland, Kimmeridge, Corfe Village and Castle, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Dor and Old Harry Rocks. Filmed in September 2011.
