Arrochar; is a village located near the head of Loch Long, on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scottish Highlands. The village is within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.Historically in Dunbartonshire, it is overlooked by a group of mountains called the Arrochar Alps, and in particular by the distinctive rocky summit of the Cobbler. It enjoys good communications as it is at the junction of the A83 and A814 roads and is served by Arrochar and Tarbet railway station. The Massacre of Glencoe took place in Glen Coe in the Highlands of Scotland on 13 February 1692, following the Jacobite uprising of 1689-92. An estimated thirty-eight members and associates of Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by government forces billeted with them, with others later alleged to have died of exposure, on the grounds they had not been prompt in pledging allegiance to the new monarchs, William III of England and II of Scotland and Mary II.

Glen Coe is a glen of volcanic origins, in the Highlands of Scotland. It lies in the north of the county of Argyll, close to the border with the historic province of Lochaber, within the modern council area of Highland. The scenic beauty of the glen has led to its inclusion in the Ben Nevis and Glen Coe National Scenic Area, one of 40 such areas in Scotland. A review of the national scenic areas by Scottish Natural Heritage in 2010 made reference to the soaring, dramatic splendour of Glen Coe, and the suddenness of the transition between high mountain pass and the lightly wooded strath in the lower glen. It also described the journey through the glen on the main A82 road as one of the classic Highland journeys. The main settlement is the village of Glencoe located at the foot of the glen. ...

On a windy October afternoon we visited Scotland's Secret Cold War Bunker. With the fall of the Soviet Union and the decline of the Cold War, this once secret underground bunker became obsolete and is now a tourist curiosity. Hidden in the Scottish farmlands for 40-yrs, this would have been the seat of Scotland's Government in the event of a nuclear event.
