First time in DERBY England! American Hapa Girls | Half Korean | Half Thai
Good morning everyone! We've had enough fun in London and it's time to head up to Derby. After paying top price for a rail ticket (£35 one way Portsmouth to London) we learned the best and cheapest way to get around is by bus, or coach as they call it. There are fares as cheap as £5 which is about $6! The trick is to book it online in advance. We booked our bus ticket (national express) a day in advance and that's where you find the great deals. Our fares were £5 each plus a £1 booking fee. So £11 total ($13.53) for the both of us!
There may be great deals with the train/rail for booking in advance as well but the bus was the best way to get to Derby. When we bought our tickets from Portsmouth we literally just showed up to the station thinking we could just buy our tickets and get on the train, which we did, but oh man you will pay top dollar for walking up and buying your ticket like that!
Today we woke up pretty early after staying out all night in town :) but we figured it would be ok since we have a 4 hour bus ride to catch up on sleep. Also we found a really decent priced hotel (London city hotel) right in the middle of the city and right next to an underground station and major buses. We caught a bus to take us to Victoria coach station where the National Express coach departs. As you can see in the start of the video, there are passengers on our bus who are commuting to work..meanwhile we are just exploring and getting lost in their country! Once we got on the bus to Derby it was super comfortable and chill the whole way. There's plenty of room, power outlets to charge devices, a restroom which neither of us used but i'm sure it's legit, and i think there was even wifi on the bus if i remember correctly but it might of been a spotty connection depending on where we were. Anyways we slept well and the bus only makes a couple stops. One of the stops is mid way and they allow everyone to get off for a quick bathroom break etc. The bus took us to the main bus station terminal in Derby where we easily found the bus that would take us to our road. We definitely stood out more as tourists in Derby since it's not exactly a main touristy type place like London..plus we asked if we could use our oyster cards on the Derby bus lol! If you're wondering, the answer is no. :)
Once we got on the bus we started looking at the map and our instructions to see how we would know where to get off. One of the riders heard us mention what street we were trying to get to and told us when it was our stop. From there we were greeted by some local Derby cats; very friendly lol. One thing we noticed was the cars drive pretty fast and they don't have time to cater to dumb pedestrians so we had to make sure we didn't stand too close to any curbs haha! We found our lovely family's house and had thee most amazing home cooked Jamaican dinner as you can see. Hands down one of the best meals i've ever had. Absolutely heavenly.
Anyways thanks for watching my videos and joining us on our travels. I have so much footage to put together it's so much fun to see the clips again it's like reliving every moment. The cool thing is we are literally experiencing things for the first time in every clip so we couldn't even remake these moments if we tried! That's what's so fun about recording these adventures. Dublin is the capital and largest city of Ireland. Its vibrancy, nightlife and tourist attractions are renowned and it is the most popular entry point for international visitors to Ireland.
LOCATION
Dublin is on the east coast of Ireland, in the province of Leinster, at the mouth of the River Liffey, The River Liffey divides the city in two, between the Northside and the Southside. and is bordered on the south by the Wicklow Mountains.
HISTORY
There is archaeological debate regarding precisely where Dublin was established by the Gaels in or before the 7th century AD. Later expanded as a Viking settlement, the Kingdom of Dublin, the city became Ireland's principal settlement following the Norman invasion. The city expanded rapidly from the 17th century and was briefly the second largest city in the British Empire before the Acts of Union in 1800. Following the partition of Ireland in 1922, Dublin became the capital of the Irish Free State, later renamed Ireland.
POPULATION
After World War Two, Italians were by far the largest immigrant group in both Dublin and Ireland. Dublin has experienced a significant level of net immigration, with the greatest numbers coming from the European Union, especially the United Kingdom, Poland and Lithuania. In terms of religion, 68.2% identified as Catholic.
BEST TIME
The best time to visit Dublin is June through August when temperatures are warm and festivals fill the streets. This also constitutes the most expensive time to visit, with high hotel rates and airfare prices. It's also the most crowded time of year. For good weather, manageable crowds, and lower prices, visit in April, May, or mid-September through mid-October.
CLIMATE
Similar to much of the rest of northwestern Europe, Dublin experiences a maritime climate with cool summers, mild winters, and a lack of temperature extremes. the sunniest months are May and June, while the wettest month is October, and the driest month is February. Winters in Dublin are relatively mild. daytime temperatures generally hover around the 5°C, but frost is common during the period November through to February when night time temperatures dip below 0°C. Summers in Dublin are also mild. The average maximum temperature is 20°C in July.
ECONOMY
The Dublin region is the economic centre of Ireland. Dublin was listed as the fourth richest city in the world by purchasing power and 10th richest by personal income. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, PayPal, Yahoo!, Facebook, Twitter, Accenture and Pfizer now have European headquarters and/or operational bases in the city.

Blarney Castle - Located in County Cork This historic castle is known for its Blarney Stone. Cliffs of Moher - Located in County Clare One of Ireland's biggest and most visited tourist attractions. The Cliffs are 230 meters in height and tower over the Atlantic Ocean. This attraction, whilst beautiful in the Summer, can be a bit of a tourist trap. If you intend to take your own transport, the over-priced car park is your only option (since the road is too narrow to park on) and to purchase your 'pay-and-display' parking ticket, you will need to go all the way through the gift shop (on the opposite side of the road), before returning to place it in your car.
Kilkenny - One of Ireland's favourite tourist spots, this Medieval Capital just 1 hour 40 minutes train out of Dublin City is a must see. Its beautiful buildings and of course imposing Norman Castle - not to mention the numerous festivals including the Arts Festival and Rhythm and Roots Festival - make Kilkenny a most desirable location.
Co. Donegal - An amazing area to see if you have your own transport, as bus services can be fairly limited. This part of the country is very traditional and you can expect to see plenty of low stone walls, thatched roof houses, rugged hills, cliffs and golden sand beaches. Best visited during Spring or Summer, there are plenty of hills walks and photo opportunities waiting to be discovered.

Amsterdam is a small town but has many great bars and night clubs neatly located in close proximity of each other. I recommend you start your evening with a few drinks at Hannekes Boom located at the Amsterdam waterfront after drop by Amsterdam's oldest alcohol tasting chamber Wynand Fockink to try traditional Dutch Jenever from which modern Gin originated and drop by TonTon Club Center for a great meetup place to play classic arcade games. Amsterdam is breathtaking from the canals that's why my cousin and I rented a canal boat so we could have our own private tour. We rented the canal boat from canalmotorboats.com conveniently located west of Amsterdam Central Station and rents for 40 euros per hour but make sure to reserve a few days ahead.
Amsterdam has 2 major nightlife districts called Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein these squares are loaded with bars and night clubs. Depending on where you start, I recommend you get a delicious negroni from NJOY cocktail bar but beware, they have a strict door policy so do not show up too trashed or under dressed.
At Rembrantplein you'll find many great spots like Escape night club, Jantjesverjaardag (a popular student bar), techno club Air Amsterdam, and my favorite Club NYX for their bizarre toilet bar on the top floor where you literally can take a piss behind the DJ in a urinal on the dance floor.
If you're not into night clubs than Amsterdam has a magnitude of bars and cafes, it is what Amsterdam is best known for. Dig deep into local Dutch cafe culture in the Jordaan district at cozy places Cafe Thijsen, Gevulde Gaper, Staalmeesters and De Zotte.
For party bars and dive bars check out No. 129, Cafe Kooper, Kopstootbar and end your night either at the Water Hole for rock music and live bands or club hard at the massive Paradiso dance floor or consider Chicago Social club for a more laid back hipster kind of vibe.
In conclusion, the Amsterdam nightlife is one of world's best. The fact that bars and clubs are open late, no last call, great selection of music & venues plus a chill laid back local crowd that makes Amsterdam the absolute party capital of Europe, without a doubt.
