As soon as we enter bin Hammad, you shall see a new world with beautiful hanging gardens, palms and ferns growing wherever you might turn. You might even see orchids and even sugarcane! And a spectacular view of a hot spring falling into an artificial pool! Farther down, the cliffs are more visible, close together and brightly colored!

Visiting Jerash, Jordan Travel Video (Gerasa of Antiquity - Γέρασα - محافظة جرش). So another new country for us. Today we are in Jordan. We just landed in Amman yesterday and this morning we are exploring the Ancient city of Jerash and now this is a Greco-Roman city so it belonged to the Greeks then it was converted by the Romans and the architecture was slighted changed so we're going to be showing you some of that.

So this is a Roman planned theater. When in use it could sit up to three thousand people and it was used for all kinds of performances.

We're now at the temple of Artemis the Goddess of the Sea.

So with the wall we were looking at just behind the olive press you can track the three different civilizations because at the very bottom you have the Greek blocks which were all different sizes and didn't really match. Then you can see the Roman style which were the big blocks of limestone and then at the very top there were smaller blocks which were placed by an Islamic culture.

This particular section was only uncovered in the 1970's. Prior to that it was underground.

Petra (Greek πέτρα (petra), meaning rock; Arabic: البتراء, Al-Batrāʾ) is a historical and archaeological city in the Jordanian governorate of Ma'an that is known for its rock cut architecture and water conduits system. Established sometime around the 6th century BC as the capital city of the Nabataeans,[2] it is a symbol of Jordan as well as its most visited tourism attraction.[2] It lies on the slope of Mount Hor[3] in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.

The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was introduced by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt.

It is renowned for its rock-cut architecture. Petra is also one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The Nabataeans constructed it as their capital city around 100 BCE.[2]

The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was introduced to the West by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. It was famously described as a rose-red city half as old as time in a Newdigate prize-winning sonnet by John William Burgon. UNESCO has described it as one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage.[3] In 1985, Petra was designated a World Heritage Site.

I get out of school on Wednesdays at 10 AM so Shukri and I decided to go to Madaba for the day. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining bright but the weather not being too hot. First we stopped off at an old church in Madaba-yes a church; Madaba is known for its majority Christian population. Madaba is also famous for its mosaics that are found mostly in old churches and old homes of the rich. The first church we went to has a map mosaic that has the Dead Sea, Jerusalem, and other locations charted on it. After that we went to another church and saw some other very beautiful mosaics. Then we went to the Madaba museum and saw more beautiful mosaics! After wandering around Madaba for a good time (all of Madaba reminds me of downtown Amman) we started to drive towards Mount Nebo. On the way we saw a sign for Moses Springs so decided to go check it out. After going downhill for quite some time we happened upon a mossy area in the middle of the desert that had a tiny trickle of water coming from it....and that was it! So we headed back up the mountain and visited Mount Nebo. My first question to Shukri when he said this is Mount Nebo was, This is it?! I guess I was expecting a real mountain that's steep and noticeable, but this was average. The view was breathtaking though and definitely worth seeing. After that we drove to the Hot Springs in Ma'en. The drive there is completely desert and nothingness. Then, all of a sudden you start going down into a valley and green appears! It's so beautiful and lush there and the 10 JDs we each had to pay to get in was well worth it. The hot spring is a fairly small area and I was glad we had come on a week day when there were few tourists or families around. There is an area at the very top which is like a sauna because the water is so scalding hot. The next level is still pretty hot and I recommend not stepping directly in the water where the waterfall comes down (from experience), the next level is bearable and there was one guy meditating underneath the waterfall for I don't know how long, the fourth level is where I mostly hung out in which feels like a hot tub, and the fifth level is just warm. I decided to wear my swimsuit and not care about traditions or men staring and it was very liberating! Once we were done relaxing we drove back to Madaba and had dinner outside at a nice Lebanese restaurant. I was so surprised at how cheap the food was here compared to Amman!! Following dinner we drove back to Amman. It was a fun day and I enjoyed getting out of Amman and seeing more sites in Jordan.
