    The Chicxulub crater is an impact crater buried underneath the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. Its center is located near the town of Chicxulub, after which the crater is named. It is located on the southern edge of the city and it is one of four airports in Mexico which has an Area Control Center ; the other ones being Mexico City International Airport, Monterrey International Airport and Mazatlán International Airport. Mérida Center controls air traffic over the southeast part of the country. It handles both domestic and international flights, and is open 24 hours a day. It can service airplanes as large as Boeing 747s and 777s, though most planes that fly in and out daily are smaller; the most common being the 737 and A320.
