The legend of Eustachian Cistercian Monastery founded in 1232 is about a Moore shepherd boy who is converted to Christianity and who found the statue of Black Madonna. However he carried it in vain to the priest of a neighboring city, the sculpture always found its way back indicating that it wanted the church to be built there. Nowadays thousands come here especially to see it. It is understandable why Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Habsburg who was the first and most enthusiastic promoter of Majorca settled down among the likes of Valldemossa and Deia. At that time the amazing man still had preserved its national dress, customs, its old face. It was here that the aristocrat wrote his book entitled Balearic Islands which he printed in his own press. The Deia festival that lasts from July to October features classical music.

Serra de Tramuntana of the north wind' which run the length of Mallorca's north coast are home to the island's most spectacular landscapes. Pine-covered slopes lean into the sea; as you climb higher, forested hills give way to barren crags and peaks. The people of Majorca have good reason to be grateful to the mountains - in winter they act as a buffer, shielding the plain from the fierce tramuntana wind and absorbing most of the island's rain and snow. In summer they provide a cool retreat from the heat of Palma and the south.
The Serra de Tramuntana runs for 88km from Andratx to Pollenca, with the rocky outcrops of Sa Dragonera and Cap de Formentor at either end. Ten peaks are over 1,000m, most are concentrated in the area around Lluc. The highest are Puig Major (1,445m) and Puig Massanella (1,349m). There are no rivers, though there are several mountain torrents which swell rapidly after rain, and the Cuber and Gorg Blau reservoirs, essential resources on an island so often affected by drought.
The mountains are best seen slowly, on foot. You smell the wild rosemary, hear the sheep bells, frighten the goats, breathe in the air and marvel at pine trees growing out of red rock - a divine version of the colours of Mallorcan village houses. If you have to drive, try to avoid the peak months of July and August, and take care - the roads here are the most dangerous on Majorca, and the endless procession of hairpin bends requires total concentration. The most dramatic drive of all is the C710 from Soller to Lluc, traversing tunnels and gorges on its way between Puig Major and Puig Massanella.
Of course, the Tramuntana Mountains hold great appeal for cyclists, both road and mountain types. The most famous route is that to Sa Calobra, a great descent with plenty of bends down to a beautiful coastline. Popular routes also include riding from Soller to Valldemossa, Soller to Pollenca and Andratx to Banyalbufar. For a selection of hikes in the mountains, the tourist office has published a useful guide with maps and reliefs, although their trail descriptions are a little sketchy! See Walking in Mallorca.

We arrived in Mallorca in spring, an island with turquoise waters, secret coves, lush green foliage, rugged mountains, picturesque villages and a vibrant capital city. It combines history, culture, and alluring beach lifestyle with fantastic natural beauty to create one of the most glamorous spots in the Mediterranean Sea. Besides the sun-drenched beaches, the mountain range is recognized as a World Heritage Site for the ancient agriculture techniques.
What really makes Mallorca the famous travel destination is its versatility. Here, we want to share with you our wonderful week-long journey exploring the lush interior as well as the dramatic coastline on this island.
We started our rural retreat from the interior of the largest island of Spain, surrounded by rich agriculture and farm lands. Then we continued exploring into the north, reaching Fornalutx, an ancient village located deep within the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains, known as the prettiest village in Spain.
After a nice break, we settled into the traditional style townhouse in Soller, and we cruised along the streets in town to admire the architecture and the impressive church of Sant Bartomeu. The attractive old town comes alive on Saturdays when the local market takes place. Soller is also a place where many artists chose to visit and live back in the days. You could easily spot Modernist artworks by Picasso, Miró, Matisse, and more in the museums here.
The must-do in Soller is the ride on the vintage tram that runs from the old town to Port de Soller. The vintage train started the service dating back to 1912 and the journey is an experience itself as it passes through wonderfully scenic countryside before arriving at the lively seaside part of the town. The beautiful natural harbor caters to many beach restaurants and activities such as boat trips and scuba diving.
Speaking of boat trips, we pulled out the yacht with our captain, started viewing the island from a different perspective. We started our beach hopping under the sun from the heavenly Caló Des Moro, composed with turquoise water and hidden white-sand beach; and Cala S'Almunia next door with charming boathouses and caves; Next is the glorious S'amarador beach surrounded by cliffs and pine forests; and there is also Cala Banyalbufar between the steep limestone cliffs and rocks. There are plenty of varieties and characters from each beach indeed.
From the sea level to underground, we entered the Dragan Caves in the east of Mallorca. These caves have formed by water being forced through the entrance from the Mediterranean Sea that may date back to 20 million years ago. The formations and roof details were truly mesmerizing. Before ending the tour with a short boat ride, you would enjoy a concert at the underground Lake Martel with classical music which has been offered since 1935. The entire experience was surreal and unforgettable.
After the adventures, we came to capital, Palma de Mallorca. The night started with the incredible backdrop of the iconic Gothic cathedral, La Seu. The city is vibrant, stylish and intimate, yet bursting with life. We dived into the traditional eateries in the back streets and the seafront of Palma, searching for seafood, Spanish paella and Fideuà. There was no better way to end the day with these amazing gastronomic experiences.
On our last day, we completely felt in love with Dramatic scenery at Cap de Formentor. This wild peninsula has breathtaking view with Cliffs that are 400 metres tall jut into the sea at the northeast tip of the island. We finished our last hike at the mouth of CALA MAGRANER, standing at the edge of the sea receiving energy from the nature and waves. In the meantime, we made ourselves a promise that we would return to this paradise for more.

The Torre of the Verger ( standard Catalan Torre del Verger , also Torre de ses Ànimes , Tower of Souls) is an ancient watchtower in the municipality of Banyalbufar in Mallorca .
Torre del Verger stands on the northwest coast of the Spanish island of Majorca . It is situated on a high rocky promontory of the Serra de Tramuntana , which descends steeply to the Mediterranean . It is located about 50 meters from the MA-10 road connecting Banyalbufar and Estellencs .
Torre del Verger was erected as a watchtower in 1579 to monitor this coastal section and defend against attacks by pirates . Today it serves as a lookout tower. It is accessible by a path and can be reached by an internal staircase. From his platform he gives an overview of the coastal section.
Torre del Verger is about eight meters high, has a diameter of about four meters and was built from the yellow limestone at its site. Above the entrance to the tower is a bay window, over which the entrance could be defended by means of throwing missiles, etc. The tower has an open top platform accessible through a hatch. The parapet is only half-height to the sea, while the outer side of the parapet is raised and has shooting- fields.

Mallorca: Geheimtipp - Tour zur Penya Roja
Wanderung zur Penya Roja (Rote Klippe) auf der Halbinsel La Victoria mit spektakulären Passagen und Ausblicken. Auf dieser Wanderung sollte man festes Schuhwerk tragen, trittsicher sein und keine Höhenangst haben. Insgesamt eine recht leichte Wanderung, nur wer nach dem Durchstieg noch hoch auf die Klippe zur Kanone (Penya del Migdia) 354 m über dem Meer möchte, muss ein wenig über Felsen nach oben Klettern.

Old villages and colorful markets, an old tram beside the beach, a monastery from the Middle Ages, fishing villages and the world’s largest lake in a cave… this is what the holiday island has to offer! From June 19 to 26, 2019, 34 My partner and I decided to visit the Balear Island Mallorca.
Starting our trip in El arenal where we would stay one week. There we visited several bars to have a taste of the famous nightlife overthere.
Stopping by Palma to visit the Capital City. Stroll through the old town, wander near the cathedral and explore hidden gardens.
Renting a bike and cruising eastbound, We discovered several hideouts like Fra Juniper Serra, Sa Torra, Badia Blava and Cap Blanc. To arrive at Cala Pi after and have a nice swim in the Fjord.
Travelling West We've found ourselves in Valdemossa. An old town in the mountains where one can enjoy the old town filled with flowers. (If you skip the touristic centre that is)
Leaving our residence to travel eastward by foot, into rough terrain. We walked through Mirador son veri nou, Cala Blava and Cap Rocat, where we took a deep dive into the ocean.
Taking the Bus West to Port the Sóller, which offers a great view of the sea and the mountains.
Our last day was spend in Banyalbufar, a small village near the westcoast of the Island. I highly recommend this place if you want to avoid other tourists. (Go early!) We've enjoyed the terraced landscape and the beautiful beach with waterfall.
Surrounding ourselves with douzens of fish there, before we had to leave the Island and go back to Amsterdam.
This trip was an amazing experience for us.
