Chillingham cattle, also known as Chillingham wild cattle, are a breed of cattle that live in a large enclosed park at Chillingham Castle, Northumberland, England. In 2009 the cattle were described as about 90 animals in Chillingham, which inhabit a very large park that has existed since the Middle Ages. The herd has remained remarkably genetically isolated for hundreds of years, surviving despite inbreeding depression due to the small population. There is also a small reserve herd of about 20 animals located on Crown Estate land near Fochabers, North East Scotland.

  • 1. Embleton Bay Embleton
    Embleton is a village and civil parish in the English county of Northumberland. Besides the village of Embleton itself, the civil parish includes the settlement of Christon Bank, situated about a mile to the west. Embleton village has a main street with one shop. There is a small green with the village pump on it, out of use now but at one time the source of the water supply. Embleton has an 18-hole golf course which opened in 1900 and was updated in 1922. The village is about 0.5 miles from Embleton Bay. The sandy beach is backed by dunes where a variety of flowers bloom: bluebells, cowslips, burnet roses and, to give it its common name, bloody cranesbill, amongst others.
