NETHERLANDS six castles in Gelderland (hd-video)
There are many castles in the Netherlands. In the province of Gelderland you will find nearly two hundred castles or caste-like estates.
I have visited six of them on one day (all near my hometown).
You can walk around most of the castles and some you can visit.
The first three (doorwerth, rosendael and vorden) are open to the public. The other ones (Hackfort, Ampsen and Wildenborch are private).
Netherlands: The Hanseatic Town of Kampen
Kampen is a municipality, a city and an old Hanseatic city at the lower reaches of the river IJssel in the Dutch province of Overijssel.
It has one of the best preserved old town centres of the Netherlands, including remains of the ancient city wall (of which three gates are still standing): The Koornmarkt Gate, The Friar Gate (Broederpoort) and the Cellebroeders Gate.

In this episode, I visit the former Hanseatic town of Zutphen. The town, situated on the spot where the river Berkel flows into the IJssel, is arguably one of the prettiest towns of its size in the Netherlands. Largely untouched by war and industrialisation, the primarily medieval and early modern centre is a gem well worth a visit.

In dit deel bezoek ik de voormalige Hanzestad Zutphen. De stad, gelegen op de plaats waar de rivier de Berkel in the IJssel stroomt, is zeker één van de mooste plaatsen van haar grootte in Nederland. De door oorlog en industrialisatie weinig aangetaste stad is zeker een bezoek waard.
Burgers' Zoo, including Ocean aquarium - Arnhem, Holland [HD]
Burgers' Zoo is a 45-hectare (110-acre) zoo in Arnhem, and is one of the biggest zoos in the Netherlands. It presents many of its animals in simulated habitat in spacious indoors ecosystems.
Besides the original zoo, it has several theme sites:
- Safari, a safari park (opened in 1968)
- Bush, a 1.5-hectare indoor tropical rainforest (opened in 1988)
- Mangrove, a mangrove swamp (opened in 1992)
- Desert, focusing on the Sonoran Desert (opened in 1994)
- Ocean, a 8 million-litre seawater aquarium (opened in 2000)
- Rimba, impression of a Southeast Asian rainforest (opened 2008)
The largest basin of 'Ocean' (5:29) is the second largest aquarium in the world where living corals are held. It contains more than 750,000 liters of water.
Burgers' Zoo has facilities for conservation and captive breeding of animals nearly extinct. It also has been successful enough in breeding fish and coral for their own aquarium that they can now help provide animals to other public aquariums. They use an artificial moon to stimulate sexual reproduction of corals in their reef, and also clone some 60 varieties.

Burgers' Zoo 100 year
On March 31, 1913 Johan Burgers opens his private animal collection to the public for the first time. The forerunner of the current Burgers' Zoo is not yet located in Arnhem at that time, but is created as a result of a hobby that had gotten out of hand in the little town of 's-Heerenberg in Gelderland.
In 1923 Johan Burgers moves to Arnhem, which, as a major city, has a far more centralized location and which can be reached much easier by the visitors. In 1924 the brand new Burgers' Nature Zoo opens its gates.

Schloss Huis Bergh
Schloss “Huis Bergh” ist eines der beeindruckensten, schönsten und größten Wasserburgen des Landes.. Das mittelalterliche Schloss ist von einem Wassergraben und alten Festungsmauern umgeben, dessen Baugeschichte bis ins 13te Jahrhundert zurückführt. Es ist von einem Wall umgeben, der in den Parkwald De Plantage übergeht, der im 18. Jahrhundert angelegt wurde. Der historische Parkwald De Plantage lädt zu erholsamen Spaziergängen ein. France: The Palace of Fontainebleau
The Palace of Fontainebleau or Château de Fontainebleau, is located 55 kilometres southeast of the centre of Paris, in the commune of Fontainebleau. It is one of the largest French royal châteaux. The medieval castle and subsequent palace served as a residence for the French monarchs from Louis VII to Napoleon III. It is now a national museum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
