Sports
Cleveland's major professional sports teams include the Cleveland Indians (Major League Baseball), Cleveland Browns (National Football League), and Cleveland Cavaliers (National Basketball Association). Local sporting facilities include Progressive Field, FirstEnergy Stadium, Quicken Loans Arena and the Wolstein Center.
The Cleveland Indians won the World Series in 1920 and 1948. They also won the American League pennant, making the World Series in the 1954, 1995, and 1997 seasons. Between 1995 and 2001, Progressive Field (then known as Jacobs Field) sold out 455 consecutive games, a Major League Baseball record until it was broken in 2008.[131]
The Cavaliers won the Eastern Conference in 2007 and 2015, but were defeated in the NBA Finals by the San Antonio Spurs and then by the Golden State Warriors, respectively. The Cavs won the Conference again in 2016 and won their first NBA Championship, finally defeating the Golden State Warriors. Afterwards, an estimated 1.3 million people attended a parade held in the Cavs honor.
Historically, the Browns have been among the winningest franchises in American football history winning eight titles during a short period of time—1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1954, 1955, and 1964. The Browns have never played in a Super Bowl. Former owner Art Modell's relocation of the Browns after the 1995 season (to Baltimore creating the Ravens), caused tremendous heartbreak and resentment among local fans.[132] Cleveland mayor, Michael R. White, worked with the NFL and Commissioner Paul Tagliabue to bring back the Browns beginning in 1999 season, retaining all team history.

Hi. My name is Michelle, and I am currently an intern in the Public Affairs Section at the
U.S. Embassy Vienna. Today, I'm here to tell you about my home state of Ohio.
Ohio often serves as a bridge between the Midwest and the Northeast, making it a popular hub for business. After all, it is home to Wendy's and Abercrombie & Fitch.
Ohio sits on Lake Erie to the north and is bordered by the Ohio River to the South allowing for many ports, as well as a lot of sailing, kayaking, and fishing. The river also gave Ohio its name. The Iroquois word ohi-yo means great river.
Native Americans inhabited Ohio for quite some time, with the Adena and Hopewell tribes being the most famous. Both tribes were mound-builders leaving behind spectacular works that are still studied today, mainly the Great Serpent Mound of the Adena and the earthworks from the Hopewell. However, these and most other indigenous cultures disappeared from Ohio by the late 17th century.
On March 1, 1803, Ohio became the 17th state. Today, Ohio has three major cities, known as the three C's, which cut diagonally across the state. Cincinnati is in the southwest, Columbus, the state capital, in the middle, and Cleveland, the Mistake on the Lake, in the northeast, where I'm from.
On the shore of Lake Erie, Cleveland is home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While
often picked on by outsiders, Cleveland is a great place to live. It is also home to several
professional sports teams, including with my favorite baseball team-the Cleveland Indians. Go Tribe! Cleveland also has the second largest Playhouse Square in the country and the Cleveland Clinic and University hospitals which are world-renowned.
Also, my home town is often used as a backdrop in movies. In fact, The Avengers was
partially filmed in Cleveland and the upcoming Iron Man III and Captain America will
be as well.
Columbus is home to one of the largest college campuses in the country, The Ohio State
University, home of the Buckeyes, where you can always here our state rock song, Hang on Sloopy. As with most schools, our football team is the most well-known with seven national championships, but we can claim dozens of championships in other sports as well. Olympic gold-medalist Jesse Owens, basketball-star Bobby Knight, and golfer Jack Nicklaus all attended Ohio State.
Ohio is known as the Buckeye state, after the Ohio Buckeye Tree. Another nickname is the Birthplace of Aviation, as Ohio was home to the Wright brothers. Ohio is also the
birthplace of seven presidents and home to an eighth. One of these presidents James A.
Garfield lived less than twenty minutes from my home.
Ohio is home to both John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth, and Neil
Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon.
If you get out of the cities, you will see the beauty of Ohio that I love. The farmlands,
forests, and gentle hills are great for hiking, picnics, and even swimming if you're so brave. Here you can get all four seasons, gorgeous sunsets, and can drink your morning coffee while watching the deer in your backyard.
Ohio offers the best of both worlds, with the bustle of the city and the beauty of the country, so I invite you to visit-we have something for everyone.

This is the Marblehead Lighthouse along Lake Erie, in Ohio. There are shots of Kelleys Island, and the Cedar Point amusement park. Since this was filmed in the off season, you can not go inside the light house. Not far away is the U.S. Coast Guard station, and I saw but could not film a coast guard helicopter.

Oldest Funhouse in USA | Abandoned Amusement Park - PA
This is the Bushkill Amusement Park and Rolling Rink located in Pennsylvania. It is over 100 years old and has suffered much damage of the years from Hurricanes, causing it to close and preventing it from re-opening. There are currently plans to re-open the park, but many people are not optimistic this will happen.
It operated continuously from 1902-2004, and during the Summer of 2006, and has been closed since then. In 1933, Thomas Long (1885-1965) leased Bushkill Park, furnishing it with the carousel that he and his father had hand-carved in Philadelphia in 1903. Long bought the park in 1939 and operated it for the rest of his life with his wife, Mabel Mom Long, who operated it until her death in 1989.
Bushkill Park is famous for its antique rides such as bumper cars, The Whip, The Haunted Pretzel, and The Bar'l of Fun. It is home to one of the nation's oldest funhouses, the Bar'l of Fun. Inside the funhouse, aside from the rotating barrel (from which the attraction gets its name), is a maze-like layout in a dark room with mirrors. In the past, there has been a flashing strobe light in the corner of this room. Beyond the maze is the famous barrel, a multi-person 'sit-and-spin' style ride, and a wobbly staircase. Upstairs is the Hall of Mirrors, and a rolling walkway that looks out onto the park. Finally, there is an original antique wooden slide that goes from the second floor to the first. This slide has been featured on the Discovery Channel.
In 2004, Hurricane Ivan struck, and the park suffered a devastating 100-year flood. This flood completely destroyed the Haunted Pretzel and a miniature golf course, while inflicting major damage on the park's bumper cars, and its Whip ride. The park has been hit by three consecutive floods since, and did not open at all in 2005. The park remains in a flood zone, being nearly surrounded by the Bushkill Creek.
In June 2010, the owners reported that they had hired crews to begin cleaning up the park. No opening date was projected, and progress has been slower than anticipated as the partners wait for additional funds to pay workers.
In the summer of 2010, the park was visited by Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz of Antique Archaeology. This visit was featured on their reality TV show, American Pickers, in the third-season premiere episode, A Banner Pick, which premiered December 6, 2010. A pair of vintage sideshow banners by Fred G. Johnson were bought from the park for US$700, and sold for US$10,000. Wolfe and Fritz returned to the park after a visit to New York City and paid an extra $5,000 for the banners because of the unexpected outcome of the Internet auctions for the two banners, and because Wolfe and Fritz were impressed with the attempts to revive the park.
The park saw a small number of visitors in 2006, but not enough to keep it running. It hasn’t been open ever since. Extensive vandalism by scrap metal thieves to the electrical infrastructure prevented the park from reopening. In June 2010, the owners had hired crews to begin cleaning up the park. No opening date has been projected.
