Russian city Chelyabinsk - 1501km east of Moscow
Flying nearly three hours east from Moscow by plane, I landed in Chelyabinsk.
From a modern Moscow international airport to a country airport is quite an eye-opener. We waited patiently near the luggage conveyor belt fro 30 minutes. It made these tired repetitious noises and was almost 70 years old. Over this old contraptions was a brand new huge LED TV, pushing out loud advertisements. What a contrast. Next to the conveyor belt, was a booth with a black telephone, which probably was operational during the WW2. Extraordinary interesting, I felt.
During our day-excursion many other typical Russians things, like Kvass. It is made from bread and tastes-in my opinion- like boiled old socks. Even after drinking half a litre, I could not get used to it. May be when it is a very hot day, I would enjoy it.
Later, in the early evening, we made started our journey to Zlatoust, a two hour bus journey through the middle of Russia. Contemplating in my seat, having my future-wife next to me, I remembered these horrible days in court of custody battle and property settlements,- but now I had a new promising future, together with a great adventure. Moscow is the capital of the Russian Federation and with over 11 million inhabitants, the largest city of Europe and the seventh largest city in the world.
Moscow is no longer the unfriendly communist city of the Cold War. Nowadays Moscow is a pearl among the major cities in Europe with beautifully restored historic buildings and many tourist attractions that can be explored freely. Well known are the many golden steeples and the Matryoshka dolls. New are the wealthy people of the city and their love for fast and expensive cars and slim women, with whom they like to show up.
The Kremlin and Red Square are the central points in Moscow and since 1990 on the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage. From here start all visits of this city and from here, all other city-attractions can easily be reached.
