Aluva (formerly Alwaye) is a municipality and a region in Kochi Metropolitan Area of the Ernakulam district in Kerala, India. It is around 15 km (9.3 mi) from Kochi city center. Located on the banks of River Periyar, Aluva is one of the major industrial centres of the state.[1] A major transportation hub, with easy access to all major forms of transportation, Aluva acts as a corridor which links the highland districts to the rest of the state. Cochin International Airport Limited at Nedumbassery is 11.7 km from Aluva. Aluva is more famous for its accessibility through rail (Aluva Railway Station), air (CIAL Airport) and metro (Kochi Metro Rail Limited).

Aluva, home to the summer residency of the Travancore royal family – the Alwaye Palace -[2] is also famous for the Sivarathri festival celebrated annually at the sandbanks of Periyar. The Advaita Ashrams in Aluva founded in 1913 by Sree Narayana Guru, one of India's greatest social reformers, adds to the cultural significance of the town.[3] Today, whilst part of the Kochi urban agglomeration, Aluva is an autonomous municipality, its civic administration conducted by Aluva Municipal Council. The town also serves as the administrative centre of the Aluva taluk.Villages from Mukundapuram, Kanayannur, Kunathunad and North Paravur taluks were combined together to form Aluva Taluk in 1956.The headquarters of the District Police Chief of Ernakulam Rural Police District, Superintending engineer, PWD (Roads) and of the District Educational Officer, Aluva are also located there. Tourists would find the Manappuram on the left as a long stretch of sand bank followed by a plain. In the festive weeks of Sivarathri, thousands gather here.By going downtown from the NH bypass after the bridge, you will be heading towards the Bank Junction.The road ahead would take you to the Palace Road. This road runs parallel to the Periyar along the Municipal Park, Aluva Palace(now the Guest House), and Sivagiri Ashram. Ezhattumugham is a country village in the Ernakulam district of Kerala India.It is situated 11.8 km from the nearest Nedumbassery Airport, Ernakulam, Kerala, India and 40 km from Cochin. You can get there hiring a taxi from the nearest town Angamaly as there is no public transport to the location. Though there are a few shortcuts via Angamaly, it is best to reach Chalakkudy and proceed from there.Ezhattumugham is a picture postcard coming to life – its flow punctuated by islets of greenery and boulders of all sizes and trees growing right in the middle of the gently moving water. A full-grown tree surrounded and nurtured by flowing water is a sight one cannot easily forget. And the mini waterfalls, which not only tickle your feet, but also remind you of the gentle force of water.
Vazhachal Falls is situated in Athirappilly Panchayath of Thrissur district in Kerala on the southwest coast of India. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River near the Vazhachal Forest Division and at the edge of the Sholayar ranges, it is just 5 km from entrance of Athirappilly Falls. It is located 36 km from Chalakudy.

Sirikundra Bungalow is a Heritage Estate Bungalow, where we stayed for a night in Valparai. Apart form the bungalow, they have some interesting wooden chalets and tents in the same compound close to the restaurant. It is owned by the Woodbriar group based out of Coimbatore. They have few other bungalows as well. Valparai is known for its tea plantations of the Anamalais, and these estate bungalows are today converted into small accommodation options in Valparai.
