Belmont is a small suburban city in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States, located about 15 miles west of uptown Charlotte and 9 miles east of Gastonia. The population was 10,076 at the 2010 census. Once known as Garibaldi Station, the name change for Belmont is disputed. Some say it was named for a prominent New York banker - August Belmont. Others contend the Pope ordered the abbot of the monastery to change the name since he would not tolerate an abbey in a place that bore the Garibaldi name. The abbot could see Crowder's mountain from the property and named the town Belmont - beautiful mountain. Belmont is home to Belmont Abbey College.

More than 200 people were accused, nineteen of whom were found guilty and executed by hanging . One other man, Giles Corey, was pressed to death for refusing to plead, and at least five people died in jail. It was the deadliest witch hunt in the history of the United States.     Silver Lake State Park is a public recreation area covering 2,936 acres bordering Lake Michigan and Silver Lake near Mears in Oceana County, Michigan. The state park is composed of mature forest land and over 2,000 acres of sand dunes. The park is 1.5 miles wide and 3 miles long and is divided into three segments: The northern area is an all-terrain vehicle dunes area where private motorized vehicle may be driven, the middle of the park is a non-vehicle area , and the southernmost section is leased to a private operator. The park grounds include the Little Sable Point Light on Lake Michigan and one mile of shoreline on 690-acre Silver Lake.

    Barkcamp State Park is a public recreation area located in Belmont County, Ohio, United States, near the village of Belmont. The 1,005-acre state park centers around 117-acre Belmont Lake, which was once considerably smaller than its present-day predecessor. The Barkcamp Creek, the namesake for the park, once ran through the area until the dam was completed in 1963, thus reducing the outflow of water. The area once housed a logging camp where logs were stripped of bark in preparation for delivery to the mill. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources began land acquisition for the park in 1955 and developed the property into a fishing and game reserve.
