New Jersey State Lunatic Asylum - [Abandoned NJ]
Founded by Dorothea Dix in 1848, this hospital is still partially in operation well over 100 years later. While certain wings of the Kirkbride are in complete disrepair, a fully operational psychiatric hospital still exists on the ground as well as a correctional facility. This hospital suffers from a bit of a morbid history as most of the other large asylums do. A doctor by the name of Henry Cotton was the medical director back in the beginnings of its operations. He believed that infections were a key cause to insanity and regularly would subject patients to having their teeth pulled, limbs amputated and other body parts cut open and removed. Thankfully, in recent years much has improved in treating psychiatric patients.

Lackawanna Cut-Off - Part 6: Why the Cut-Off was Built
This video is about why the Lackawanna Cut-Off was built, replacing a much longer and circuitous route called the Old Road. We'll visit a number of places along the Old Road in NJ and PA--In NJ, Netcong, Hackettstown, Rockport (site of a major accident in 1925), Washington, Oxford Tunnel, Manunka Chunk Tunnel, Ramseyburg, and Delaware; and in PA, Portland, the Delaware River Viaduct and Slateford Jct. On the Warren Railroad in NJ, we'll visit Hampton Jct. (with the Central RR of NJ) and Changewater. The Warren Railroad and Old Road are one in the same between Washington and Delaware NJ. From Byhalia, Mississippi to Birmingham, Alabama, US 78 is designated as Interstate 22.
