Bardstown: Most Beautiful Small Town in America | Kentucky Life | KET
Bardstown, Ky was named Most Beautiful Small Town in America in the Rand McNally/USA Today 2012 Best of the Road competition. Kentucky Life talks to Kim Huston, author of Small Town Sexy, about the iconic streets, shops, cafes, and historic neighborhoods in the Bourbon Capital of the World.
A total of 650 towns were nominated, and Bardstown pulled out all the stops for the offical judges' visit, with people lining the streets for a parade. The Rand McNally team of Nikki and Dusty Green spent a few days seeing the sights and getting to know the people. When the online voting was done, this Nelson County town — home to Barton 1792, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, and the Ky Bourbon Festival — was the winner.
(Note: Danville was among the towns vying for Most Beautiful, making the final six; and Murray was named Friendliest.)

Downtown Paris | Kentucky Life | KET
A visit to Main Street in downtown Paris finds food, drink and a number of historic buildings revitalized through local preservation efforts.
Paris isn't just in Bourbon County—now it's in Bourbon Country once again. For the first time since Prohibition, a distillery has opened in Paris: The Gentleman, owned by Andrew Buchanan and Curtis Mackley. In addition, Paris's first microbrewery, Rooster Brewing, owned by Ralph Quillin, has opened on Main Street.
We also stop by Clay's Downtown Restaurant, a dining spot that is popular with the horse industry crowd. The antiques and gallery district on Main Street features 10 museums, antique shops and galleries in six blocks. Our visit wouldn't be complete without a look inside Loch Lea Antiques and a cup of coffee at Lil's Coffee Place.

Our Town: Louisa | Kentucky Life | KET
Louisa, home of Yatesville Lake State Park, offers visitors great fishing, boating, hiking, and an abundance of wildlife—including the only American bald eagle nesting area in Eastern Kentucky.
Bald eagles eat fish as their main source of food, so they are usually found near large bodies of water like Yatesville Lake, a 2,300-acre mountain reservoir. The lake averages 40 feet in depth and is known for its bass, bluegill, and crappie.
Louisa is located just off the Country Music Highway, U.S. 23, across the Big Sandy River from West Virginia. Septemberfest is held annually downtown.

Town of Liberty | Kentucky Life | KET
Liberty, the county seat for Casey County, was established in 1808 by several Revolutionary War veterans and named for one of the values of their new country.
The county itself was established two years earlier, in 1806, and is named for Colonel William Casey, an early Kentucky pioneer and the great-grandfather of Samuel L. Clemens, better known as Mark Twain. Like many counties in Kentucky, Casey County grew from a wilderness outpost of settlers hoping to make a living off the land. Today Casey County's south-central Kentucky location places it within one of the fastest growing regions in the state.

The first segment in a series of ghostly tales and haunted histories of Old Louisville. Old Louisville is famous for its ornate mansions, built between 1885 and 1905, in 45 square blocks of its historic district. David Domine, author of “The Ghosts of Old Louisville,” gives ghost tours and history/architecture tours of the neighborhood.

Salyersville, Ky | Kentucky Life | KET
Kentucky Life visits the Magoffin County town of Salyersville. Located on the Licking River, the town (population 1,883) was established out of the former Adamsville in 1860, the same year the county was formed out of parts of Morgan, Johnson and Floyd counties.
A big draw here is the Pioneer Village, where the Magoffin County Historical Society has rebuilt original log cabins—some dating back to the early 1800s—to create a living history museum. The society also runs a genealogical library and honors a different family each year for Founders Days.
The town sits in the Eastern Coal Field, and a major employer here is Joy Global, a mining equipment manufacturer with operations worldwide.
Salyersville is rebuilding after an EF3 tornado on March 2, 2012, damaged schools, homes, and several Mountain Parkway businesses. With the work of untold numbers of people, the town is slowly getting back on its feet. Signs of renewal include groundbreaking for a new church, the reopening of the Subway restaurant, and the reopening of an auto parts store.
