Burnside is a home rule-class city in Pulaski County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 637 at the 2000 census. In 2004, Burnside became the only town in Pulaski County or any adjoining county to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages in qualified establishments. Since then, Burnside has annexed about eight miles of shoreline along Lake Cumberland in order to include Lee's Ford Marina on Fishing Creek, allowing it to sell alcohol. On August 28, 2007, Burnside voters again approved the sale of alcoholic beverages in restaurants that seat at least 100 people and derive at least 70% of their gross receipts from the sale of food, by a vote ...

Ambrose Everett Burnside was an American soldier, railroad executive, inventor, industrialist, and politician from Rhode Island. He served as governor and as a United States Senator. As a Union Army general in the American Civil War, he conducted successful campaigns in North Carolina and East Tennessee, as well as countering the raids of Confederate General John Hunt Morgan, but suffered disastrous defeats at the Battle of Fredericksburg and Battle of the Crater. His distinctive style of facial hair became known as sideburns, derived from his last name. He was also the first president of the National Rifle Association.

Trout Fishing in Kentucky - Cumberland River

The Cumberland River below Lake Cumberland is one of the premier trout fishing destinations in the southeastern United States. Home to the state record 21-pound brown trout and a 14-pound, 6-ounce rainbow trout, the 75-mile Kentucky portion of the Cumberland tailwater rivals the White River of Arkansas and the Caney Fork in Tennessee. Trophy brown trout swim in the Cumberland River, as do bountiful numbers of rainbow trout. The river is also home to walleye, sauger and oversized striped bass.
The Cumberland River rises quickly when electrical generation begins from the dam. Powerful current created by more than one generator in operation makes the river unsuitable for paddlers. Log on to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Web site at orn.usace.army.mil/ and click on the Recreation Info tab, then the Fishing Information tab followed by the Lake Cumberland tab. The daily fishing report contains the 24-hour generation schedule for Wolf Creek Dam. Boaters may also call (606) 678-8697 for current information.

Floaters wanting to enjoy the Cumberland River may stay overnight at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park (1-800-325-1709) on U.S. 127, just a few miles north of Wolf Creek Dam. For those who prefer camping, the Kendall Recreation Area (270-343-4660) just below Wolf Creek Dam offers tent sites, hot showers, electrical hook-ups and drinking water.

Pine Knot Cemetery - Will Government Take Alvira's Cemetery??

There are only 4 historic cemeteries left of the town of Alvira. 3 are accessible to the public. The 4th one is inside the prison fence. The government wants to expand the neighboring prison which would place the cemeteries inside the prison fence, making it inaccessible to the public.
The public is outraged. They are against this. They want to have access to their ancestors grave sites.
The town of Alvira was taken over by eminent domain early in WWII to manufacture and store TNT. 11 months later, the government realized they over-estimated the need for that much TNT and the site was abandoned......
