Camp Creek State Park, West Virginia Campsite Photos

Camp Creek State Park was formed from Camp Creek State Forest in 1987, when a tract of approximately 550 acres was set aside to create this recreation area. Still adjacent to the park lies Camp Creek State Forest. Consisting of nearly 5,300 acres of forest land this property has managed to demonstrate sound forest management principles through the concept of multiple-use. A hunter will find many species of game including deer, native wild turkey, ruffed grouse and a variety of small game. Camp Creek, from which these areas take their name, is one of the best stocked trout streams in the state and can offer hours of fishing enjoyment.
The park is situated just two miles off Interstate 77 at exit 20. Camp Creek State Park is an oasis for the vacationer. Whether you choose the park as a vacation site or a stop over on the way to another destination, rest assured you will find exactly what you are looking for. Surrounded by the breathtaking mountains of southern West Virginia, Camp Creek offers a chance to enjoy what state parks are all about. The Ranger told us that the campground is always full during the summer, so plan accordingly.

Interesting Places in West Virginia (1989)
Another classic day odyssey (sort of) from yer' favorite (I hope) bullfrog! The Cass Scenic RR Fall Photo Special would run the next day.
We first head for Spruce Knob Lake (great for boating and camping) before searching for a cave known as the Sinks of Gandy; so named because Gandy Creek flows through it. It passes beneath Yocum Knob then emerges on the knob's opposite side. We couldn't locate the entrance-but we were unknowingly directly over the cave itself!
If anyone knows how to reach the Sinks from there, please comment. I believe we walk down that dirt driveway I show but I'm not sure.
Then on to West Virginia's highest point-Spruce Knob itself. We'll walk the Whispering Spruce Trail-and see an interesting phenomenon along the way. A GREAT place for a day trip! Just beware of those dusty roads!!
After that-you'll see our drive to good 'ol Seneca Rocks. Another phenomenon-I hardly narrate!! Forgive my lack of narration! HEY-wait a doggone minute! Other YouTubers don't narrate either! And I'm asking to be forgiven?? What the...
After dusting off our car at the rocks-we then grab a Coke at the vending machine.
Then-just as in our October 2013 day odyssey-we head west on US 33 to Bowden Cave, though I didn't know at the time that was it. We'll also see a cool view of Kelly Mountain.
Last-but not least-a look at CSX's last days at Elkins. That portion was actually uploaded by me a few years back-but here it is again 'case you ain't seen it. I dig those pre-GEVO days-don't you? This could very well have been the LAST day of CSX in Elkins!!

Virginia City is the Wild West
Virginia City, NV may be set in the 1800′s but the entertainment is timeless! It is a town rich in history and the home to a lot of firsts and lasts. Mark Twain first used his pen name here, Janice Joplin joined what would be her first band and they have the last full speed stagecoach ride.
There is an ever evolving calendar of events and something different almost every weekend! There are wild west show downs, themed balls, silly parades and museums galore. You can walk the town and enjoy the shops and saloons or dig in your heels and try every adventure. I love costumes and you have to love a town where you can dress in 19th century attire and blend in. With so much to do, the only thing you will have to worry about is how many days you can spare to stay.

Blackwater Falls State Park
Tag along with us on part 2 of our trip. This time we leave our base camp at Stonewall Jackson Lake to visit Blackwater falls State park in Davis WV. In our opinion this is one of if not the prettiest state parks in WV that we have seen so far. Of course I am very partial to Camp Creek but the views here at Blackwater are breath taking. I hope the video does it some justice. You just cant get the full effect without being there folks. So load up the family and take a road trip. Our state has some of the most beautiful parks and overlooks you just have to get out there and Get Busy Living. Part 3 we will hike Seneca Rocks. Where are the best camping destinations near your home and how can you identify them? Tag along with us on a New Years Day Jeep ride to Hanging Rock in WV and VA. Beautiful panoramic views and short hikes to Both places don't disappoint. First spot is in VA off of Potts Mountain Rd in the Jefferson National Forest. It's a short easy I mile round trip hike out to the lookout where you can see for miles and miles into VA and WV.
The second hike is just up the road and back into WV and it's also called Hanging Rock and it has a fire tower built in the 50's which is now the Raptor Observatory and is a neat structure with awesome views as well. This hike is a little more of an incline but also not a bad hike and it's a 2 mile round trip hike.

During a road trip from Toronto to Long Island, we stopped in Letchworth State Park an Upper New York State Park that has been dubbed the Grand Canyon of the East and voted the number one state park in the USA.
We toured the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls, Mount Morris Dam, Wolfs Creek and had a white water rafting adventure with Adventure Calls Outfitters.
