The canton of Uri is one of the 26 cantons of Switzerland and a founding member of the Swiss Confederation. It is located in Central Switzerland. The canton's territory covers the valley of the Reuss between the St. Gotthard Pass and Lake Lucerne. The official language of Uri is German, but the main spoken dialect is the Alemannic Swiss German called Urner German. Uri was the only canton where the children in school had to learn Italian as their first foreign language. But in the school year of 2005/2006 this was changed to English as in most other cantons. Schöllenen Gorge is a gorge formed by the upper Reuss in the Swiss canton of Uri between the towns of Göschenen to the north and Andermatt to the south. It provides access to the St Gotthard Pass. Enclosed by sheer granite walls, its road and railway require several spectacular bridges and tunnels, of which the most famous is a stone bridge known as the Teufelsbrücke .

Lake Lucerne is a lake in central Switzerland and the fourth largest in the country. The lake has a complicated shape, with several sharp bends and four arms. It starts in the south-north bound Reuss Valley between steep cliffs above the Urnersee from Flüelen towards Brunnen to the north before it makes a sharp bend to the west where it continues into the Gersauer Becken. Here is also the deepest point of the lake with 214 m . Klausen Pass is a high mountain pass in the Swiss Alps connecting Altdorf in the canton of Uri with Linthal in the canton of Glarus. Somewhat unusually, the boundary between the two cantons does not lie at the summit of the pass, but some 8 kilometres down the slope towards Linthal, with the summit being in Uri.The Klausen Pass is crossed by a paved road, which has a length, between Altdorf and Linthal, of 46 kilometres . The road approaches the summit from Altdorf via the Schächen Valley communities of Bürglen, Spiringen and Unterschächen, and descends to Linthal via the Urnerboden. The road is normally closed between October and May, due to the high snowfall on the pass. William Tell is a folk hero of Switzerland. According to the legend, Tell was an expert marksman with the crossbow who assassinated Albrecht Gessler, a tyrannical reeve of the Habsburg dukes positioned in Altdorf, in the canton of Uri. Tell's defiance and tyrannicide encouraged the population to open rebellion and a pact against the foreign rulers with neighbouring Schwyz and Unterwalden, marking the foundation of the Swiss Confederacy. Set in the early 14th century , the first written records of the legend date to the latter part of the 15th century, when the Swiss Confederacy was gaining military and political influence. The Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway is a largely volunteer operated heritage railway which operates a partially rack and pinion-operated line across the Furka Pass, between Realp in Uri and Oberwald in Valais. Culminating at 2,160 metres , above sea level, it is an old mountainous section of the Furka Oberalp Bahn that was abandoned after the construction of the Furka Tunnel. It has been gradually brought back into service by the Verein Furka-Bergstrecke with the use of only steam locomotives, with the entire line completed in 2010.:86-7 The Furka Railway is the second highest rail crossing in Europe, after the Bernina Railway. Travel from Erstfeld to Altdorf in Canton Uri, Switzerland

Come on a journey from Erstfeld to Altdorf, Switzerland. This video was filmed on 31 March 2019, while traveling through Canton Uri. You will see the River Reuss throughout the video as well as beautiful views of the Swiss Alps. Passing through these towns is a famous Highway (Autobahn) from Lucerne to Lugano built in 1980. Besides car travel, there are also plenty of options for hiking and biking trails. This area is especially beautiful because of the old farms that dot the landscape. Their architecture is especially interesting, as it reflects the history and culture of Switzerland. A small cable car (Luftseilbahn), will transport small groups of tourists up to even better views of the alps. Another notable feature of this area is Rega, the Swiss air ambulance, which is located in the northern part of Erstfeld. While this journey is not filled with tourists it is still an attractive place for tourists to visit. Along the journey you will see truck stop Gotthard, part of a trail in the tunnel. This tour ends in Railway Station Altdorf. The center of Altdorf is only about 1 km from the railway station, but after a long day of touring, taking the train makes sense for many ambitious visitors.

Susten Pass in Swiss Alps- Switzerland

Susten Pass (German: Sustenpass) (el. 2262 m.) is a mountain pass in the Swiss Alps. The pass road, built from 1938–1945, connects Innertkirchen in the canton of Bern with Wassen in the canton of Uri. A 300 metres long tunnel crosses the pass at 2,224 metres.

The pass is popular with tourists, especially for the views of the Stein Glacier on the south side.
