The Algarve is one of Portugal's more popular holiday destinations, with it's stunning long sandy beaches and picturesque whitewashed towns. Indulge in the beautiful scenery which surrounds you, such as the breathtaking cliffs, the white golden sand and the scalloped beaches. The Algarve coast has often been described in two – West of Faro is set with beautiful rock formations offering amazing photo opportunities. Algarve's night-life is often said to be vibrant and varied with the many pubs and clubs you find. There are plenty of places for you to go and spend time with your friends. You can also find some very quiet, peaceful pubs which are ideal for families to enjoy an evening out at. Algarve holidays and excursions are best discovered via rental car which are normally collected at the airport.

ALGARVE: Carvoeiro town & beach (Portugal)
Carvoeiro is a Portuguese coastal town in the Algarve. Carvoeiro is commonly known as Praia de Carvoeiro, although this is no longer its formal name.
Formed from a picturesque fishing village, with a long history of settlement, the parish slowly developed into a tourist town, in the municipality of Lagoa.
Algar Seco, a few hundred meters along the coast east of the main square and beach, is a popular nature site where ocean wave erosion has carved out grottoes, islets and water-spouts.

With an old history, this picturesque fishing village in the Algarve, has a beach in a small bay of transparent waters, which makes it quite sheltered. At the place can be hired boats to visit the caves and isolated beaches.
Located 5 km from the city of Lagoa, the town of Carvoeiro offers a group of small beaches cut by rocky cliffs, with clear waters and fine sand, forming paradisiacal summer resorts.
Walking along the sea is one of the most beautiful walks that can be advised to those who visit Carvoeiro discovering not only the beauty of the beaches but also appreciating the testimonies that history has left in its architectural heritage.
The site of the Algar Seco is fantastic, with the harmonious set of its rocks that form authentic balconies and natural windows on the sea. Monte Carvoeiro, on the opposite side, represents the highest and most luxurious coastal area of the town of Carvoeiro.

Carvoeiro is a village in Algarve. Carvoeiro, or more commonly known as Praia de Carvoeiro (although this is no longer its formal name), is a Portuguese civil parish/freguesia in the municipality/concelho of Lagoa (Algarve), about 5 km south of the city itself (on the Atlantic Ocean), 14.12 km² in area with 2,784 inhabitant (2001). The population density is 197.2 people/km².
It was created as a separate freguesia in 1985 and raised to the status of town on April 19, 2001. This picturesque fishing village, with a long history of settlement, has grown over the last decades into the main tourist area of the concelho. It has a number of fine beaches protected by clifts.
There are traces of Roman habitation and naval activity in the area. There has also been a long history of pirate and enemy military assaults on the coast, and a number of naval battles here, most notably the battle in 1544 between a squadron of ships under D. Petro da Cunha, and the Turkish corsair (barbary pirate), Xarramet.
According to historical sources, the name of the village derives from “Caboiere,” an old name for a hamlet of fishermen from the Islamic-medieval period. For most of its history, fishing was the mainstay of the local economy.
Carvoeiro profited from the expansion of the preserving industry, like the surrounding freguesias, because it created many jobs and wealth at its prime.
However, from the 1960s onward, tourism gradually became the economic base of the area, with many new hotels, apartment complexes, shops, roads, and a significant improvement in the infrastructure.
Carvoeiro represents a particularly attractive option when it comes to tourism (beaches, Golf and water sports). The scarped coast, the water quality, the warm climate and the famous Golf Courses, offer the right conditions to make Carvoeiro stand out, as a quality destination for Portuguese and foreign tourists.
Walking by the seaside while admiring the natural beauty and pieces of history (achitectonic patrimony, an ancient fortress and the Shrine of Nossa Senhora da Conceição), that remained in this location, is a great advise for those who like to relax and to contemplate the beauty of nature's work.
