The Town of Cedaredge is a Home Rule Municipality in Delta County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 2253 at the 2010 United States Census. Cedaredge sits in the Surface Creek Valley beneath the southern slopes of the Grand Mesa, the largest mesa in the world. The Black Canyon of the Colorado is the canyon on the Colorado River where Hoover Dam was built. The canyon is located on the Colorado River at the state line between Nevada and Arizona. The western wall of the gorge is in the El Dorado Mountains, and the eastern wall is in the Black Mountains of Arizona. The canyon formed about 15 million years ago during the Miocene Basin and Range uplift. Black Canyon gets its name from the black volcanic rocks that are found throughout the area.Just south of the Hoover Dam on the Nevada side of the canyon is the Sauna Cave. This cave was drilled by miners working on Hoover Dam while it was being constructed. It is a deep cave with calcium carbonate crystals on the walls. Travel Colorado - Visiting Mesa Verde National Park

Take a tour of Mesa Verde in Colorado, United States -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

Southwestern Colorado serves as the backdrop for Mesa Verde, one of the great windows into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people.

Meaning green table, Mesa Verde was first discovered by Spanish explorers moving west to California.

However, it wasn't until the late 19th century that the famous cliff dwellings, like the Cliff Palace, were discovered.

The cliff dwellings, built under rocky outcroppings and in caves, were home to the natives for hundreds of years.

Hard sandstone and adobe were the main building materials for these houses.

Though much of the ruins are well-preserved, much vandalism and theft took place in the early years of the area's discovery.

To protect this piece of history, Mesa Verde was named a U.S. National Park in 1906, and is a National Historic Landmark today.

Colorado's Grand Mesa, Summer 2012

The starting footage places you over seventy miles away looking across the Uncompahgre Plateau. Not only does it rise over a mile higher than the valley but its five hundred square mile surface area makes it the most visible mountain in the area. The segments looking down from the mountain were recorded around Land's End Observatory and its overlooks in July as well as a biking excursion on the Flowing Park loop trail one month later. I've replaced the original audio with Big Country by Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and Mike Marshall as well as Magic #9 by Infamous Stringdusters.

If this doesn’t make you yearn for winter in Colorado, nothing will.

Colorado poet David Mason's ode to winter celebrates all that is special about Colorado snow. Among its other fine qualities, the quiet of it warms you like a friend, he says. The Grand Mesa Colorado; CO Highway 65

A ride on Colorado Highway 65; from Orchard Colorado to De Beque, over the Grand Mesa. The weather was not ideal, but it was still a good ride and worth it. Perhaps I will do it again when the sun is out.

Grand Mesa Color Sunday Drive - Road Trippin' in Colorado

ROAD TRIPPIN’ - **Suggest you watch in FULL SCREEN for best view** Feelin’ a little nostalgic that I’m coming up on my 5 yr anniversary of moving to Colorado from San Diego. It was a dream I’ve had since I was 8 yrs old after visiting a dude ranch in Colorado and I announced “I’m moving to Colorado when I grow up!! I’m a country girl trapped in the city.”

These pics were taken while driving up & over the Colorado Grand Mesa on “Color Sunday” just 2 weeks after moving here in 2010. The slideshow is to give you a sense of what it looks & feels like from the front seat of a Mustang convertible. I hope you enjoy it.

95% of these pictures were taken from behind the wheel of my ’07 Mustang GT convertible while rolling down the scenic highway (hence some blur at times). That’s the great thing about having a convertible, there’s no roof to obstruct the views. (By the way if you’re interested, my Mustang is for sale, has low miles and is in excellent condition!) I have become quite proficient at driving with one hand (or one eye) and shooting pictures & Flip cam movies with the other (especially if I rest my hand on top of my windshield). This is NOT something I’d recommend in California but while country driving in Colorado the traffic is nearly non existent most of the time.

What used to be called “Color Sunday” has now become an entire “Color Weekend” celebrated on the Colorado Western Slope. To enjoy this official scenic byway, travel I-70 then keep an eye out between Debeque and Grand Junction to take exit 49 off the I-70 and travel South on Hwy 65 toward Powderhorn Ski Resort. Just follow it all the way up & over the Mesa (through Cedaredge) and it will drop you off in Delta. It’s just one of many beautiful drives around the western side of the Rocky Mountains that I encourage anyone with an adventuresome spirit to put it on their bucket list.

The Grand Mesa is the world’s largest flattop mountain and home to more than 300 lakes, reservoirs & ponds. “Color Weekend” occurs the last weekend of September every year. The ski lift at Powderhorn Ski Resort is open to ride & get a unique perspective of the colors on the mountain as well as a grand view of the arid valley below to the East which offers a stark contrast indeed. Powderhorn also opens their cafe, bar & grill for those who forget to bring a picnic lunch. Enjoying lunch or drinks out on their deck is an absolute must with the delightful views.

Two weeks after making the big move to Colorado from San Diego (where I’d lived my entire life) and at the ripe “old age” of 49, I began a new chapter of my life here in the Grand Valley on the Western Slope. At a downtown Grand Junction car show I discovered the local Mustang Club and was delighted when they invited me to tag along with them for the drive the following day.

“Color Sunday” is a long time tradition here on the Colorado Western Slope and it’s quite a beautiful experience that I recommend to anyone interested in the beauty of mother nature as she transitions from one season to the next. Spring and summer here in the Grand Valley are indeed breathtakingly beautiful with all the colorful vineyards and fruit orchards in Palisade and East Orchard Mesa and with the spectacular colored canyons, mountains, Bookcliffs and buttes all around us. But Fall... is truly spectacular in all its glory. These pictures with my cheap camera simply can’t do it justice... you must see with your own eyes!

These pictures have not been touched up (only a few were cropped) and taken with a fairly inexpensive Canon 35mm camera so that’s why they’re not professional-grade nor am I a professional photographer so please don’t judge the 'quality'. Also some were taken from behind the windshield hence the weird reflections & smudges in a few. I just wanted to share this with anyone interested in seeing what it looks like here in the Fall.

Day 37 - Chapman Reservoir CG, Routt NF (4K)

CANADA Bound - Day 37 finds us making it to Colorado via Steamboat Springs and south to the Routt National Forest where we select a remote campground 21 miles back on a bumpy forest service road. Two deep potholes concealed nicely level with water in the shade really hammered the front suspension when I hit them unexpectedly. The campground is called Chapman Reservoir as it sits alongside a small pretty reservoir.
