The Centro Region is a region in central Portugal. The cities with major administrative status inside this region are Coimbra, Aveiro, Viseu, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Covilhã and Guarda. It is one of the seven Regions of Portugal . It is also one of the regions of Europe, as given by the European Union for statistical and geographical purposes. Its area totals 28,462 km2 . As of 2011, its population totalled 2,327,026 inhabitants, with a population density of 82 inhabitants per square kilometre.

Guincho is nearby small villages like Areia, Charneca, Figueira do Guincho and historical Biscaia. The beach,which has a shoreline of approximately 800 metres, has preferred surfing conditions and is popular for surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing.     The Praia do Norte is a Portuguese beach located in Nazaré, Portugal, which due to its great conditions of surfing and its giant breaking waves was listed on the Guinness Book of Records for the biggest waves ever surfed. Praia do Norte’s very high breaking waves form due to the presence of the underwater Nazaré Canyon. The canyon creates constructive interference between incoming swell waves which tends to make the waves much larger. In November 2011, surfer Garrett McNamara, who resides in Hawai'i, surfed a record-breaking giant wave: 78 feet from trough to crest, at Praia do Norte in Nazaré, Portugal.     The BSWW Mundialito, sometimes simply known as Mundialito, is an annual international beach soccer tournament that takes place between few select countries, which are invited to play at the tournament organized by Beach Soccer Worldwide . First played in 1994 at Copacabana beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the competition was reignited in 1997 in Portugal, where it has been held ever since. Few nations have won the tournament, those being only Brazil, Portugal, United States and Spain. The first Mundialito competition to consist of club teams took place in March 2011, known as the Mundialito de Clubes.
