Schweitzer Mountain Resort is a ski resort in the northwest United States in northern Idaho, 11 miles northwest of Sandpoint. Located in Bonner County in the Selkirk Mountains, it overlooks Lake Pend Oreille to the southeast with views of the Bitterroot and Cabinet mountain ranges. The ski area is approximately 45 miles south of the Canada–US border. Schweitzer Mountain has a summit elevation of 6,400 feet above sea level with a vertical drop of 2,440 feet . There are 92 named runs and open bowls on Schweitzer's skiable area of 2,900 acres , and the average annual snowfall is over 300 inches . The longest continuous groomed run is Little Blue Ridge Run, at 2.1 miles , and the uphill lift capacity is 12,502 passengers per hour. Dry Falls is one of the great geological wonders of North America. Carved by Ice Age floods that long ago disappeared, the former waterfall is now a stark cliff, 400 feet high and 3.5 miles wide. In its heyday, the waterfall was four times the size of Niagara Falls. Today it overlooks a desert oasis filled with lakes and abundant wildlife.

July 15, 2016 - Go west, young man! And lo, I did. In my penultimate day of my trip, I make the long journey from West Yellowstone, Wyoming, at the western edge of the park with the same name, through the Rocky Mountains of Montana and Idaho to the inland metropolis of Spokane, Washington.

Along the way I pass by many mountains, rivers, and lakes, including two major mountain passes on the I-90: Homestake Pass over the Continental Divide, and Lookout Pass over the Idaho/Montana state line.
