Clervaux is a commune and town in northern Luxembourg, administrative capital of the canton of Clervaux. The town's arms, granted in 1896, show three blackbirds on a gold ground in the chief of a red shield, as a variation of the arms of the former Lords of Clervaux.

1. The Family of Man Clervaux
The Family of Man was an ambitious photography exhibition curated by Edward Steichen, the director of the Museum of Modern Art's Department of Photography. It was first shown in 1955 from January 24 to May 8 at the New York MoMA, then toured the world for eight years to record-breaking audience numbers. According to Steichen, the exhibition represented the culmination of his career.The physical collection is archived and displayed at Clervaux Castle in Luxembourg . It was first presented there in 1994 after restoration of the prints.In 2003 the Family of Man photographic collection was added to UNESCO's Memory of the World Register in recognition of its historical value.

2. Chateau de Clervaux Clervaux
Urspelt Castle is located in the little village of Urspelt some 3 km north-east of Clervaux in northern Luxembourg. Though the castle has a history going back at least three centuries, today's building dates from 1860. After comprehensive restoration work and additions, it recently opened as a hotel and meeting centre.

Vianden Castle , located in Vianden in the north of Luxembourg, is one of the largest fortified castles west of the Rhine. With origins dating from the 10th century, the castle was built in the Romanesque style from the 11th to 14th centuries. Gothic transformations and trimmings were added at the end of this period. A Renaissance mansion was added in the 17th century but thereafter the castle was allowed to fall into ruins. It has, however, recently been fully restored and is open to visitors.

Clervaux is a small town, set in the narrow valley of the river Klierf and surrounded by wood covered hills.

The Family of Man, a famous exhibit of photos collected by Edward Steichen, is on permanent display at the Castle of Clervaux. The castle was built in the 12th century.

The Clervaux castle now houses the offices of the local government, the reception of the Syndicat d'Initiative (local Tourist Office), a collection of models of Luxembourg's old fortified castles, and a small war museum exhibiting weapons and souvenirs from the 1944-1945 Ardennes offensive (Battle of the Bulge).

Several walking trails have origin and end in or near Clervaux.

| Luxembourg is a small, but really nice country with a population of just 500,000. If you travel by car it will take just 2-3 days to see all major sights of interest. The country's official languages are German and French, but people generally speak French most often.

Clervaux (Luxembourg)

Een bezoek aan het prachtige plaatsje Clervaux in Luxemburg. Het kleine plaatsje ligt in een prachtig dal ingesloten en is vanaf een uitzichtpunt op de doorgaande weg te bekijken. Het heeft 4600 inwoners. Het Kasteel van Clervaux is gedateerd in de 12e eeuw en de 17e eeuw. In het kasteel is een klein oorlogsmuseum gevestigd. Ook is hier de permanente fototentoonstelling The Family of Man, van Edward Steichen. Deze tentoonstelling is reeds in 1955 geopend in het Museum of Modern Art in New York en is sinds 1964 in Clervaux te zien. Sinds 2003 staat hij op de Memory of the world lijst van UNESCO. Het plaatsje heeft zwaar te lijden gehad in de tweede wereldoorlog. Het kasteel is daarna dan ook weer herbouwd. De kerk is van ongeveer 1910.
