Danzhou is a prefecture-level city in the northwest of the Chinese island province of Hainan. Although called a city, Danzhou administers a large area which was called Dan County or Danxian until 1993. The administrative seat and urban center of Danzhou is Nada Town, which is often colloquially referred to as Danzhou city. Danzhou was upgraded from a county-level city into a prefecture-level city in February 2015.

The Zaijiutang is the building where Su Dongpo lived and gave lectures during exile. The Dongpo Academy is located near the town of Zhonghe, 40 km from Danzhou city. It is now a tourist attraction.

The reservoir contains more than 100 islands, and is used for agriculture, fisheries, and tourism.

    Wuzhi Mountain is the highest mountain in Hainan, China, towering 1,840 metres above the center of Hainan Island. The surrounding areas of Wuzhi Mountain are inhabited mainly by the Li ethnic group. It is located adjacent to Wuzhishan City but is not part of that city's administrative area. Various Li myths concern the name for the mountain and its formation. One legend has it that the five mountain peaks are the fossilized fingers of a dead Li clan chief. Another tale is that the five peaks are dedicated to the five most powerful Li gods. Numerous historical poems have also been written about the mountain, the most famous of all by the Hainan writer, Qiujun.
