St. George's Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in Georgetown, Guyana. The wooden church reaches a height of 43.5 metres . It is the seat of the Bishop of Guyana. St. George's was designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield and opened on 24 August 1892. The building was completed in 1899. It is located on Church Street in Georgetown, and has been designated a National Monument.

Brickdam Cathedral, more formally known as the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, is the Roman Catholic cathedral in Georgetown, Guyana, and is the leading Catholic church of the country. Built in the 1920s, it is constructed in a Romanesque architectural style designed by Leonard Stokes, and is 200 feet long and 1,000 feet wide. The centre ceiling is 60 feet 6 inches high, and the dome reaches 74 feet 10 inches. In 1819 the Catholic Committee made a request for the construction of a church at Brickdam on a portion of the old parade ground. Governor Sir Benjamin D'Urban laid the foundation stone of the first church on 12 December 1825. Initially named Christ Church, it was later renamed circa 1847 the Church of the Resurrection. St. Andrews Kirk is the oldest building in Georgetown, Guyana continually in use for religious purposes. The Dutch Reformed congregation laid its foundations in 1811. However, due to financial difficulties it was acquired by Scottish Presbyterians and was formally opened for service on 28 February 1818. It was the first church built by the Europeans in which slaves were allowed to worship. It is situated near the Parliament Building on the north eastern corner of Brickdam. Rev. Oswald Allen Best was the church first Guyanese minister and he served the church with distinction until his death in April, 2009. Between 1943 and 1950 the minister was Rev. Norman Birnie, MA. He came from Aberdeen, Scotland with his wife and two daughters, under the auspices of the Church of Scotland.

The Demerara Harbour Bridge is a 6,074-foot (1,851 m) long floating toll bridge. It was commissioned on 2 July 1978.[1] The bridge crosses the Demerara River 4 miles (6.4 km) south of the Guyanese capital Georgetown, from Peter's Hall, East Bank Demerara to Schoon Ord, West Bank Demerara, connecting Demerara-Mahaica (Region 4) with Essequibo Islands-West Demerara (Region 3) on the west bank. There is a pedestrian footwalk. A raised section lets small vessels pass under. A retractor span lets large vessels pass. Construction of the Demerara Harbour Bridge began on 29 May 1976. Construction assistance was provided by the British Government, but the basic design was by a Guyanese, Capt. John Patrick Coghlan. The bridge was only designed to last 10 years, yet it is still going strong.[1][2] Tolls are collected only in one direction of travel even though the bridge handles one lane of traffic in each direction. Traffic going west to east pays no toll.

The bridge is exactly 1.25 miles (2.01 km) long and has 61 spans. A high-level span provides a horizontal clearance of 32.0 metres (105 ft) and a vertical clearance of 7.9 metres (26 ft) to let small craft pass at all times. To let large craft pass, two retractor spans retract fully to leave a horizontal clearance of 77.4 metres (254 ft).

As of 2015 9,000 vehicles transit the Demerara Harbour Bridge daily, an increase of 4.8 per cent from the previous year.[1]

Read all about it here - The pepper wine is exceptional. A few of you have asked for the page to reflect more of what's good in Guyana and we agree. Where we see progress we'll point it out. It's always worth remembering that we live in a beautiful country, unbelievably beautiful if we're honest. Sad fact is, most of that beauty has left our cities and public spaces. It's not good enough to focus on Kaieteur Falls when the majority of the population live where garbage falls, still, balance is good. We'll go back and make a more in depth video on the wine making process in the future so consider this a teaser.
