1. Gunston Hall Lorton
Gunston Hall is an 18th-century Georgian mansion near the Potomac River in Mason Neck, Virginia, USA. The house was the home of the United States Founding Father George Mason. It was located at the center of a 5,500 acre plantation.The home is also located not far from George Washington's home. The construction period of Gunston Hall was between 1755 and 1759.The interior of the house and its design was mostly the work of William Buckland, a carpenter/joiner and indentured servant from England. Buckland later went on to design several notable buildings in Virginia and Maryland. Both he and William Bernard Sears, another indentured servant, are believed to have created the ornate woodwork and interior carving. 2. Sully Historic Site Chantilly
Sully Historic Site, more commonly known as Sully Plantation, is both a Virginia landmark and nationally registered historic place in Chantilly, Virginia.The earliest recorded claim to the land was made by the Doeg. Later the Lee family of Virginia owned the land from 1725 to 1839. Richard Bland Lee did not build the main house until 1794. Following the purchase by William Swartwort in 1838, Sully was used as a home, a working farm, or both by a series of private owners. Then in 1958, Sully was acquired by the federal government as a part of the area to be used for the construction of Dulles Airport. Today the Fairfax County Park Authority operates the site with a specific focus on the Lee family.

John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry was an effort by armed abolitionist John Brown to initiate an armed slave revolt in 1859 by taking over a United States arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. Brown's party of 22 was defeated by a company of U.S. Marines, led by First Lieutenant Israel Greene. Colonel Robert E. Lee was in overall command of the operation to retake the arsenal. John Brown had originally asked Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, both of whom he had met in his transformative years as an abolitionist in Springfield, Massachusetts, to join him in his raid, but Tubman was prevented by illness and Douglass declined, as he believed Brown's plan would fail.

The George Washington Birthplace National Monument is a national monument in Westmoreland County, Virginia, United States. This site was developed in the mid-17th century as a colonial tobacco plantation by Englishman John Washington. A member of the assembly, he was a great-grandfather of George Washington, general and the first United States president. George Washington was born in this house on February 22, 1732. He lived here until age three, returning later to live here as a teenager. Before the 20th century, the original house was lost, but the foundation outlines of Washington's house are marked. Northern Virginia Four Seasons - Things to Do near Washington DC

This is just a tiny snippet of things to do or see all year round in Northern Virginia, also known as NOVA (North Virginia). We've been living here for a while, and wanted to share some of the things we liked most about this area.

In the summer, it can be quite hot. Renting a boat in Burke Lake doesn't cost much at all, and is fun and cooling in the morning water.

Autumn is one of the best seasons in this area (including Washington DC and Maryland). The trees are vibrant and the weather is perfect. There are many activities such as apple picking and hiking not too far away.

Winter is usually mild, and it doesn't snow often. At least once each season, though, there is a beautiful white snowfall (perfect for watching wildlife as they flock to the bird feeders).

Spring can be bad for people with allergies, but at least there are many flowers blossoming, especially cherry blossoms (which you can see lots of nearby in Washington DC).
