The Finger Lakes are a group of 11 long, narrow, roughly north–south lakes in an area called the Finger Lakes region in Central New York, in the United States. It is defined as a bioregion and is a popular tourist destination. The lakes' shapes reminded early map-makers of human fingers, and the name stuck. They are also characteristic glacial finger lakes. Cayuga and Seneca Lakes are among the deepest in the United States, with bottoms well below sea level. They are also the longest Finger Lakes, though neither's width exceeds 3.5 miles ; Seneca Lake is 38.1 miles long, and 66.9 square miles , the largest in total area.

Montour Falls is a village located in Schuyler County, New York, United States. A population of 1,711 was reported by the US Census of 2010. A waterfall at the end of West Main Street gives the village its name. The name Montour is derived from Queen Catharine Montour, a prominent Native American woman of Seneca Indian heritage who lived at the village site in the 18th century. The boundaries defining the Village of Montour Falls occur mostly within the Town of Montour, but a small part lies within the Town of Dix. The village is located approximately twenty miles north of Elmira, New York and three miles south of Watkins Glen, New York. The New York State Academy of Fire Science is located in the village.

How to Visit the amazing Watkins Glen State Park in New York Fingerlakes

We just got back from a 40 day road trip back east and part of that
was going to TBEX conference in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. #myflxtbex We took a tour through Watkins Glen State park weather was rainy as could be so the next day I took the boys back for a hike. Watkins Glen NY is a small town near Corning. Watkins Glen State Park New York is located in the middle of the town. Known for its speedway / race track, the town also hosts the Watkins Glen Gorge which is where the state park is. There are a ton of waterfalls and accessible hiking. It's a relatively small park but visually stunning. It has some of the best waterfalls in ny state parks in my opinion and is one of the best things to do in Watkins Glen NY. The boys and I didn't get to hike the whole trail because we ran out of time and we got hungry but it's good to know that the entry to the park is free and parking in their lot is just $8 a day. There are numerous hotels in the town and surrounding area and camping nearby.

The Finger Lakes are a group of eleven long, narrow, roughly east-west lakes in a region called the finger lakes region in Central New York in the United States. This region is defined as a bioregion. They are a popular tourist destination.

The lakes' shapes reminded early map-makers of human fingers, and the name stuck. Cayuga (435 feet, 133 m) and Seneca (618 feet, 188 m) are among the deepest in the United States, with their bottoms well below sea level. The two longest are close to 40 miles long (64 km) from end to end, and never more than 3.5 miles (5.6 km) wide. Cayuga (38.1 miles) is the longest, and Seneca 66.9 square miles (173 km2) the largest in total area. For more info, visit this link:
