Colonial Parkway is a 23-mile scenic parkway linking the three points of Virginia's Historic Triangle, Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown. It is part of the National Park Service's Colonial National Historical Park. Virginia's official state designation for the parkway is State Route 90003. With portions built between 1930 and 1957, it links the three communities via a roadway shielded from views of commercial development. The roadway is toll-free, is free of semi trucks, and has speed limits of around 35 to 45 mph . As a National Scenic Byway and All-American Road , it is also popular with tourists due to the James River and York River ends of the parkway.

Rosewell Plantation in Gloucester County, Virginia, was for more than 100 years the home of a branch of the Page family, one of the First Families of Virginia. Begun in 1725, the Flemish bond brick Rosewell mansion overlooking the York River was one of the most elaborate homes in the American colonies. In Mansions of Virginia, the architectural historian Thomas Tileston Waterman described the plantation house as the largest and finest of American houses of the colonial period. Through much of the 18th century and 19th centuries, and during the American Civil War, Rosewell plantation hosted the area's most elaborate formal balls and celebrations. The home burned in 1916.

Since 1972, East West Communities has been developing award-winning communities and resorts in seven states across America. The success story started when the original partners were a group of young real estate professionals working for one of the nation's premier resort developers, Sea Pines Company on Hilton Head Island. The company purchased land outside Richmond, Virginia, with unprecedented plans of building a community that would offer a vacation lifestyle for everyday living. The first community, Brandermill, became home to 4,400 families and was named the Best Planned Community in America in 1977 by Better Homes and Gardens Magazine and the National Association of Homebuilders. The second community, Woodlake, also near Richmond, was chosen Best Planned Community in America by the 14,000 members of Urban Land Institute (ULI) in 1990.

In the mid-1980s, East West expanded into the Hampton Roads region of Virginia with the Gatling Pointe community near Smithfield. Gatling Pointe set the benchmark for community development in the area, and was a three-time Community of the Year recipient from the Peninsula Housing & Builders Association. The Riverfront, the developer's second masterplanned community in Hampton Roads, continued to raise the bar in community development for the region and has received numerous accolades and awards. Soon after The Riverfront, East West opened Eagle Harbor and Founders Pointe, both in Isle of Wight County -- and both receiving multiple Community of the Year awards from the Peninsula Housing and Builders Association. Hollins Mill Tunnel in Lynchburg, Virginia

On the west side of downtown Lynchburg, Virginia, Blackwater Creek has carved a steep gorge as it makes its way to the James River. In the mid-19th century several railroad lines were built to connect Lynchburg to the western frontier and to other major cities to the north and east. One of the lines passed through the Blackwater Creek area and a 450 foot long tunnel was constructed. The tunnel was built by African slaves and Irish immigrants by a combination of black powder blasting and hand digging. Two groups started on either end of the tunnel and met in the middle.

The tunnel is named for the nearby Hollins Mill site, a historic water powered mill located along Blackwater Creek. Today, the property is owned by the City of Lynchburg and a popular walking/biking path passes through the tunnel. Hollins Mill Road and McIvor Street both pass over the tunnel. Despite its location right in downtown Lynchburg, the area has a fantastic wild feel to it.
