Goldendale is a rural agricultural city and county seat of Klickitat County, Washington, United States, near the Columbia River Gorge. The population within city limits was 3,760 at the 2000 census and 3,407, a 9.4% decrease at the 2010 census. A nationally known point of interest is north of town, Goldendale Observatory State Park. The valley area in which Goldendale is located offers a sweeping and dramatic views of the Cascade Range Mountains 40 mile to the west and the Simcoe Hills to the north.

1. Bonneville Lock & Dam Cascade Locks
Bonneville Lock and Dam consists of several run-of-the-river dam structures that together complete a span of the Columbia River between the U.S. states of Oregon and Washington at River Mile 146.1. The dam is located 40 miles east of Portland, Oregon, in the Columbia River Gorge. The primary functions of Bonneville Lock and Dam are electrical power generation and river navigation. The dam was built and is managed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. At the time of its construction in the 1930s it was the largest water impoundment project of its type in the nation, able to withstand flooding on an unprecedented scale. WILD HORSE (K'usee) - Yakima Nation - YouTube

Free-roaming horses have been a part of the landscape in Idaho and central and eastern Oregon and Washington since the Spanish brought the species to what is now the United States.
The eagle is an amazing bird, but for me the symbol that best epitomizes the spirit of America is the wild horse and the buffalo. Both great creatures that at one time roamed free throughout much of the land. Today there are only pockets of them found mostly in the Western States, but when you see them, it is still an amazing sight to behold.
We've seen buffalo in Yellowstone National Park and South Dakota and now we saw wild horses on the Yakima Nation land in Washington State.

Wild Horses of the Yakama Homeland have been around for generations and as long as our people can remember. The oral history kept by our people tells of the cultural and traditonal value this prized animal has among the Yakama People. Revered for its endurance and strength, the horse has become a symbol of the true Yakama Spirit and strength that survived the most difficult times over the last 200 years. Today, the horse remains at the same status and is often a prized possession with most tribal members who remember the days when horse chasing and catching was an art itself.

At the present time (2010) there are believed to be over 12,000 wild horses on the reservation.
