As of the 2010 census, the city population was 25,557, and in 2016 the estimated population was 27,172.Greenville was named for Thomas J.   • 2. South Tar River Greenway Greenville North Carolina
    The South Tar River Greenway is a 3.1 miles greenway located in Greenville, North Carolina. The northwest terminus trailhead is located at the Town Common. The trail goes east and follows the southern bank of the Tar River, then at the confluence of the Tar River and Green Mill Run, turns south and follows the western edge of the tributary. The southeast terminus trailhead is located at Greensprings Park. This greenway is the second in the city, after the 1.5 miles Green Mill Run Greenway. The $1,488,000 project is funded from the Federal Highway Administration budget through its inclusion in the Federal FY2005 Appropriations Act.

    Big Squaw Mountain Resort is a ski area in Greenville, Maine. Opened in 1963, the ski area is located on the north side of Big Moose Mountain , overlooking Moosehead Lake. The resort featured two chairlifts that covered 1,700 vertical feet. After a chairlift accident and subsequent closure, the ski area operated on a limited basis from 2004 to 2010. A community group called Friends of Squaw Mountain has recently fixed up the ski area, and the Lower Mountain reopened in January 2013.

    Little Turtle, or Mihšihkinaahkwa , , was a war chief of the Miami people, and one of the most famous Native American military leaders of his time. Historian Wiley Sword calls him perhaps the most capable Indian leader then in the Old Northwest. Mihšihkinaahkwa led a confederation of native warriors in several major victories against U.S. forces in the 1790s during the Northwest Indian Wars, also called Little Turtle's War. In 1791 the confederation defeated General Arthur St. Clair, who lost 900 men in the most decisive loss by the U.S. Army against Native American forces. Little Turtle's native name in historic records was spelled in a variety of ways, including Michikinikwa, Meshekunnoghquoh, Michikinakoua, Michikiniqua, Me-She-Kin-No-Quah, Meshecunnaquan, and Mischecanocquah.
