The Museum of Reconstruction for Finnmark and North Troms is a museum in the town of Hammerfest, Norway. As was much of Northern Norway, the entire town of Hammerfest was razed to the ground by the retreating Nazi German military forces at the end of World War II. The museum commemorates this event with a wide range of displays, including both photographs and many items from the town from around that time. The first part of the main sequence of exhibits, on the ground floor, depicts the events themselves; the second consists largely of a series of reconstructions of the town during and following its reconstruction. The Struve Geodetic Arc is a chain of survey triangulations stretching from Hammerfest in Norway to the Black Sea, through ten countries and over 2,820 km, which yielded the first accurate measurement of a meridian.The chain was established and used by the German-born Russian scientist Friedrich Georg Wilhelm von Struve in the years 1816 to 1855 to establish the exact size and shape of the earth. At that time, the chain passed merely through two countries: Union of Sweden-Norway and the Russian Empire. The World Heritage Rock Art Centre - Alta Museum is located at Alta in Finnmark, Norway. Norway.World Heritage Rock Art - Alta Museum is situated in Hjemmeluft, a small bay on Altafjord near the Arctic Circle. Alta Museum is northern Norway's most-visited summer museum, with more than 1,000 visitors each day. It presents exhibitions on local culture and historic industries including the nearby prehistoric rock carvings that form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Alta Museum is situated at the site of early settlement of Finnmark dating from around 11,000 years ago. In 1973, the first rock carvings in Hjemmeluft were found. To date over 3,000 figures have been registered here. The museum opened in June 1991 and won the European Museum of the Year Award in 1993.

The Northern Lights Cathedral - Alta Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Alta Municipality in Finnmark county. It is located in the central part of the town of Alta. It is the church for the Alta parish and the Alta prosti in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The modern church was built in a circular style in 2013 by the architecture firm LINK arkitektur, in collaboration with Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects. The church seats about 350 people. Prior to the opening of this church, the main church for the parish was the historic Alta Church.

About Hammerfest

Hammerfest is a city and municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The municipality encompasses parts of three islands: Kvaløya, Sørøya, and Seiland. Hammerfest was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The law required that all cities should be separated from their rural districts, but because of low population, and very few voters, this was impossible to carry out for Hammerfest in 1838. (See also Vadsø and Vardø.) The rural district of Hammerfest (Sørøysund) was separated from the city on 1 January 1852, but it was merged back into the city on 1 January 1992 (but without the area of Kvalsund, which was separated from Sørøysund as a municipality of its own in 1869).

Hammerfest - the name
The town is named after an old anchorage. The first element is hammer, referring to a number of large rocks, good for mooring boats, called Hamran (Old Norse: Hamarr - steep mountainside). The Hamran were covered up in land reclaiming during the early post-war years. The last element is fest, from Old Norse festr which means 'fastening' (for boats).

Coat-of-arms
The coat-of-arms is from relatively modern times. They were granted on 16 December 1938. The arms of Hammerfest, a silver polar bear on a red background, were prepared for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the town's foundation in 1939. The polar bear was chosen as a symbol for the fishing in the polar seas north of Norway. The polar bear itself is not native to mainland Norway.

Locations, Tromso, Hammerfest, Vardo, Vadso, Nordkapp, Honningsvag, Kirkenes. At this time of year (December) the sun doesn't come up, only a few hours of dusk. one of the highlights was a trip to Nordkapp (Northcape) 71˚ North and the most northerly point in Europe. A fantastic country, Hopefully go back soon.

It was amazing tour. We explored Alta, Hammerfest and along the way to North Cape (The extreme north point of Europe). We were also lucky to observe Midnight Sun i.e Sun during midnight which you can also see in this video. We are very much thankful to our host Dr Aamer Shehzad and family for their nice hospitality
