Happy Valley-Goose Bay is a town in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Located in the central part of Labrador on the coast of Lake Melville and the Grand River, Happy Valley-Goose Bay is the largest population centre in that region. Incorporated in 1973, it comprises the former town of Happy Valley and the Local Improvement District of Goose Bay. Built on a large sandy plateau in 1941, the town is home to the largest military air base in northeastern North America, CFB Goose Bay.

Nunatsiavut is an autonomous area claimed by the Inuit in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The settlement area includes territory in Labrador extending to the Quebec border. In 2002, the Labrador Inuit Association submitted a proposal for limited autonomy to the government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The constitution was ratified on 1 December 2005, at which time the Labrador Inuit Association ceased to exist, and the new Government of Nunatsiavut was established, initially being responsible for health, education and cultural affairs. Part 15 of our road trip across Northern Quebec and Eastern Canada. After stopping in Labrador City and Churchill Falls, our luck finally changed in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, where we found one of the satellite phones that the province provides free of charge for use along the highway.

GGC - 19 - Labrador Coastal Drive: 600km of gravel to the Atlantic Ocean

Part 16 of our road trip across Northern Quebec and Eastern Canada. Over 600 kilometers of rough, remote, and gorgeous gravel road through the wilderness of Labrador, from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, all the way to the Atlantic Ocean! We even saw our very first iceberg ever! Plus, some nature photographs at the end.

Newfoundland and Labrador in a Week

I spent a week in Newfoundland. I was originally going to vlog my whole experience, but decided to instead make a video montage of the whole trip.

No matter where you travel in the world it is amazing how great of a feeling it is when you make sure to take videos and photos as a memory with a purpose. This is the first time I went out of my way to take video instead of just photos on a trip and it is definitely a great keep sake to know I have this video to look back at. Anywhere I travel in the future I will definitely be either vlogging or doing another video montage.

If you have never visited Newfoundland it is definitely worth the trip and there is so much to explore and see.

GGC - 15 - We finally reached Newfoundland and Labrador!

Part 12 of our road trip across Northern Quebec and Eastern Canada. We finally finish our drive up route 389 from Baie-Comeau to Labrador City, and in doing so, cross another province off our list: Newfoundland and Labrador! Along the way, we also saw a huge Iron Ore Mine in Fermont, Quebec.
