Hawthorne is a city in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,417 at the 2010 census. The city grew around crossroads which are now US Highway 301 and Florida State Road 20. Hawthorne was incorporated as a city in 1881. The mayor of Hawthorne is Matt Surrency who is also the president of the Florida League of Mayors.
