Herkimer County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the population was 64,519. Its county seat is Herkimer. The county was created in 1791 north of the Mohawk River out of part of Montgomery County. It is named after General Nicholas Herkimer, who died from battle wounds in 1777 after taking part in the Battle of Oriskany during the Revolutionary War. Herkimer County is part of the Utica–Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area.

    Greek Peak Mountain Resort is a ski resort, with a vertical drop of 952 feet , located near Cortland, New York. Greek Peak offers day and night skiing 7 days a week from late December until mid March. This mountain features 55 trails with varied terrain. It also has 6 lifts, 2 magic carpet lifts, and a tubing center with a tubing handle tow. A cross country Nordic center featuring 10 trails is also available. A terrain park with various elements is also located on the mountain along with the Progression Park, which is more suited for people just starting out in the parks.
