The Hermitage is a historical plantation and museum located in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States, 10 miles east of downtown Nashville. The plantation was owned by Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, from 1804 until his death at the Hermitage in 1845. Jackson only lived at the property occasionally until he retired from public life in 1837. Enslaved men, women, and children, numbering nine at the plantation's purchase in 1804 and 110 at Jackson's death, worked at the Hermitage and were principally involved in growing cotton, its major cash crop. It is a National Historic Landmark.

William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States, serving from March 4, 1897, until his assassination six months into his second term. McKinley led the nation to victory in the Spanish–American War, raised protective tariffs to promote American industry and kept the nation on the gold standard in a rejection of free silver . McKinley was the last president to have served in the American Civil War and the only one to have started the war as an enlisted soldier, beginning as a private in the Union Army and ending as a brevet major. After the war, he settled in Canton, Ohio, where he practiced law and married Ida Saxton. In 1876, he was elected to Congress, where he became the Republican Party's expert on the protective tariff, which he promised would bring prosperity. His 1890 ...

#thehermitage #nashvillesites #nashvilletours We had the opportunity to visit The Hermitage, the 7th president of the United States, Andrew Jackson's home in Nashville TN. Andrew Jackson purchased the land in the early 1800's completing the first home between 1819 and 1821. The current structure is the 3rd rebuild completed in 1837 after heavy fire damage. This was a great opportunity to visit a part of early 1800's history, discover life during this period, even the political struggles that had a great impact on our nation. One other point. There are many aspects of life during this period and this presidency that offer dark parts to US history and the people it impacted. A statement was made by one of the presenters during the introductory video viewed in the museum stating: History is messy. I couldn't agree more. I'm a huge history buff. My hope is our history, regardless of what it was at that time, we learn from it, and never to return to the darker parts.

☑ Nashville Zoo at Grassmere
A 200-acre (81 ha) zoo and historic plantation farmhouse located 6 miles (9.7 km) southeast of downtown. Was founded in 1996, , the result of a merger between two competing facilities, The Nashville Zoo and Grassmere Wildlife Park.

☑ Cheekwood Botanical Garden
A privately funded 55-acre (22 ha) estate on the western edge of the city. Formerly the residence of Nashville's Cheek family, the 30,000-square-foot (2,800 m2) Georgian-style mansion was opened as a museum in 1960.

☑ Centennial Park
A large urban park located approximately two miles (three km) west of downtown. On November 11, 2005, Centennial Park became Nashville's first wireless internet park by offering free Wi-Fi internet access to park patrons.

☑ Parthenon
A full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens. It was built in 1897 as part of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition. Today functions as an art museum. The Parthenon's permanent collection is a group of 63 paintings by 19th- and 20th-century American artists.

☑ Tennessee State Capitol
The home of the Tennessee legislature, the location of the governor's office, and a National Historic Landmark. One of only ten state capitols that does not have a dome. The cornerstone was laid on July 4, 1845 and the building was completed in 1859.

☑ Fort Negley
Was a fortification built for the American Civil War, located approximately 2-mile (3.2 km) south of downtown. Was the largest inland fort built in the United States during the war.

☑ Tennessee Agricultural Museum
A renovated plantation barn that houses a collection of 19th and 20th century home and farm artifacts. Outside there are log cabins, a small farm house, kitchen herb garden, perennial garden and nature trail is also part of the museum tour.

☑ Harpeth River State Park
A state park in Cheatham County. Is a linear park that was created to connect several state historic, natural, and archaeological sites along the lower Harpeth River.

☑ Mount Olivet Cemetery
A 250-acre (100 ha) cemetery. Serves as the final resting place for many of Middle Tennessee's political and business leaders, including several former governors of Tennessee, U.S. Senators, and U.S. Congressional Representatives.

Stranger Parts of Nashville | Grand Hotels, Tributes to Greek Gods and More S4EP10

Did you know there's a temple to the Greek God Athena with a 41 tall statue of her, or a multiple award winning bathroom in Nashville? Neither did we....

This was our first chance to explore Nashville together, and we LOVED it. We got to see the Parthenon with a 41' tall statue of the Greek Goddess Athena, the Hermatige Hotel and its award winning bathroom, the Bicentennial Mall and finally the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge. We made it to the bridge by sunset and got some amazing pictures of downtown Nashville at sunset.

The only downside, there's just too much to see in one day. This is part one of our Nashville exploration. We will show you places not attached to the music scene that make this area incredible to visit.
