The population was 13,975 at the 2010 census, and since 2013 has been part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area after being a long time part of the Pittsburgh Media Market. Indiana is also the principal city of the Indiana, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area.     University Park Mall is a shopping mall in metropolitan South Bend and is owned by Simon Property Group. The anchors are Macy's, JCPenney, Barnes & Noble and Sears. The mall was originally anchored by a 122,632 sq ft Hudson's and a 152,922 sq ft L. S. Ayres, which became Marshall Field's in 1997, before closing in 2006 and torn down in 2007. The L. S. Ayres store was renamed Macy's on September 9, 2006. The former Marshall Field's was replaced by an outdoor concourse anchored by Barnes & Noble.

Circle Centre Mall was opened to the public on September 8, 1995, and incorporates existing downtown structures such as the former L. S. Ayres flagship store.
