Fa Hien Cave, also Pahiyangala Cave is situated in the district of Kalutara, Western Province, Sri Lanka and according to a rural legend, named after an alleged resident during historical times, namely Buddhist monk Faxian . However, there is no archaeological or historical evidence to support this legend. Nonetheless, the site is of archaeological significance as Late Pleistocene human fossilized skeletal remains were discovered in the cave's sediments during excavations in the 1960s, the 1980s and in 2013.

The Madu Ganga is a minor watercourse which originates near Uragasmanhandiya in the Galle District of Sri Lanka, before widening into the Madu Ganga Lake at Balapitiya. The river then flows for a further a 4.4 km before draining into the Indian Ocean. The Buddhist Amarapura Nikaya sect had its first upasampada on a fleet of boats anchored upon it in 1803. Ich war bereits 2 mal in Sri Lanka unterwegs und habe insgesamt mehr als 3 Wochen vor Ort verbracht. Die 5 Sehenswürdigkeiten in Sri Lanka die ich hier vorstelle, fassen zusammen, was das Land ausmacht: die exotische Tierwelt, beeindruckende Landschaften, geschichtsträchtige Orte und natürlich den berühmten Ceylon Tee.

Es erwartet dich eine riesige Vielfalt: Sri Lanka hat von traumhaften Stränden, tollen Tauchspots, Nationalparks mit beeindruckender Tierwelt (Elefanten, Leoparden, Affen etc.) über Teeplantagen im Hochland bis hin zu riesigen Tempelanlagen, Festungen und sehenswerten Städten (z.B. Galle) so ziemlich alles im Angebot.

Dementsprechend ist die Auflistung hier nur ein ganz kleiner Teil der vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten in Sri Lanka und stellt lediglich eine Zusammenfassung meiner absoluten Highlights dar. Eine weitere, ausführlichere Serie über Sri Lanka erscheint bald auf diesem Kanal!
