Kamianets-Podilskyi is a city on the Smotrych River in western Ukraine, to the north-east of Chernivtsi. Formerly the administrative center of the Khmelnytskyi Oblast, the city is now the administrative center of the Kamianets-Podilskyi Raion within the Khmelnytskyi Oblast . The city itself is also designated as a separate district within the region. The current estimated population is around 101,728 .

  • 1. Bakota/ Submerged Settlement and Remains of Ancient Cave Monastery Kamianets Podilskyi
    Bakota is a historic submerged settlement of the Rus Kingdom, modern-day Khmelnytskyi Oblast in western Ukraine. The village lies beneath the Dniester River and is located in the historical Podillia region. Bakota has an ancient Orthodox cave monastery , which includes ancient frescoes and paintings dating back to the 12th-14th centuries, as well as preserved remains of monks. Local legend has it that the Bakota Cave Monastery was founded by Saint Anthony of Kiev, who also founded the historic Kiev Pechersk Lavra in 1051, now in Kiev, Ukraine. A Paleolithic archaeological site is also located near the village. Bakota is currently part of the National Environmental Park Podilski Tovtry.

    National Nature Park Podilski Tovtry is a national park, located in the Horodok, Kamianets-Podilskyi, and the Chemerivtsi Raions of Khmelnytskyi Oblast in southern region of the western Ukraine. It is the biggest nature conservation area in Ukraine. The National Environmental Park Podilski Tovtry was created on the decree #476/96 of the President of Ukraine, then Leonid Kuchma, on July 27, 1996, in order to maintain and protect the natural landscape of the Podillia region. The park is a nature-conservational, recreational, culturally enlightening, and scientifically researching institution of national importance.
