Originally known as the State of Mysore, it was renamed Karnataka in 1973. The state corresponds to the Carnatic region. The capital and largest city is Bangalore . Karnataka is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, Goa to the northwest, Maharashtra to the north, Telangana to the northeast, Andhra Pradesh to the east, Tamil Nadu to the southeast, and Kerala to the south.   • 1. Oyster Rock Lighthouse Karwar
    The Oyster Rock Lighthouse is located in Karwar, Karnataka, India, on one of the islands located close to Karwar, Oyster Rock. Tourists can reach this island with the help of motor boats, which are available from Karwar Port. Constructed by the British during the 1860s, the lighthouse became functional from 25 March 1864.The tower has a dome on the top, from where the entrance to the lantern room can be seen. The lantern was painted white rather than orange or red, in order to make the sunrise and sunset more apparent.

    NITK Beach is situated on the southwestern seaboard of the Indian sub-continent, adjacent to Surathkal, Mangalore, Karnataka. It is 20 km from the centre of Mangalore city. The northern extension of Suratkal Beach, it was later named after the nearby NITK .It is a private beach. A lighthouse was constructed at the beach in 1972.
