1. Ναύπλιο
«Λίγες πόλεις αντανακλούν την πλούσια και διαφορετική ιστορία της Ελλάδας όπως το Ναύπλιο, ένας από τους πιο κομψούς και ρομαντικούς προορισμούς. Βρίσκεται στην καρδιά της ιστορικής Αργολίδος, περιοχής στην Πελοπόννησο. Η πόλη μπορεί να υπερηφανεύεται για υπέροχα νεοκλασικά αρχοντικά, όμορφη βενετσιάνικη αρχιτεκτονική και γραφικά σοκάκια. Το τοπίο της το συνθέτουν δύο Βενετσιάνικα κάστρα, το Παλαμίδη και η Ακροναυπλία, χτισμένα σε δύο διαδοχικούς λόφους. Κάτι που δεν πρέπει να χάσετε είναι το φρούριο Μπούρτζι στον Αργολικό κόλπο. Για να φτάσετε εκεί αρκεί μια σύντομη βόλτα με το φέρι. Προσφέρει μοναδική θέα στο Ναύρπλιο και ένα ιδανικό σκηνικό για ρομαντικές αποδράσεις».
2. Πάργα
«Η γραφική πόλη της Πάργας είναι ο πιο δημοφιλής καλοκαιρινός προορισμός στην Ήπειρο, στη Δυτική Ελλάδα. Χτισμένη αμφιθεατρικά στις πλαγιές του λόφου του Πεζόβολου και περιτριγυρισμένη από πλούσια βλάστηση και πανέμορφα γαλανά νερά, η πόλη προσδίδει στον επισκέπτη μια χαλαρή νησιώτικη διάθεση κι ας μην βρίσκεται σε νησί. Στα highlights της Πάργας, ο επισκέπτης μπορεί να απολαύσει τα γοητευτικά και πολύχρωμα παραθαλάσσια σπίτια και τις πλακόστρωτες πλατείες και να επισκεφθεί τα ερείπια ενός παλιού ενετικού κάστρου στην κορυφή του λόφου. ».
3. Καλαμπάκα
«Με έναν πληθυσμό περίπου 12.000 ανθρώπων, η μικρή πόλη της Καλαμπάκας βρίσκεται στην κεντρική Ελλάδα. Είναι χτισμένη “στα πόδια” των πιο εντυπωσιακών “πυραμίδων”, των Μετεώρων, ένα συγκρότημα απότομων βράχων που φιλοξενούν ένα από τα πιο μεγάλα και πιο σημαντικά συγκροτήματα μοναστηριών. Είναι χαρακτηρισμένα ως Μνημίο Παγκόσμιας Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς της UNESCO. Μπορείτε να κάνετε βόλτα στα στενά πλακόστρωτα δρομάκια της γραφικής παλιάς πόλης συνοικίας του Σοποτού, μεγάλο μέρος του οποίου είναι χτισμένο κάτω ακριβώς από τη σκιά των βράχων και να απολαύσετε την υπέροχη παραδοσιακή αρχιτεκτονική».
4. Καστοριά
«Το κρυφό μαργαριτάρι της Βόρειας Ελλάδας, η φωτογενής πόλη της Καστοριάς είναι χτισμένη σε μια στενή λωρίδας γης ανάμεσα στα νερά της πανέμορφης λίμνης Ορεστιάδας, σου δίνει την εντύπωση ενός πλωτού νησιού. Η υπέροχη βόλτα γύρω από τη λίμνη είναι ίσως μια από τις πιο ρομαντικές βόλτες στην Ελλάδα, που σου προσφέρει μοναδική θέα της Καστοριάς και των γύρω βουνών».
5. Καρπενήσι
«Ευρέως δημοφιλές στους λάτρεις των χειμερινών σπορ, αλλά και τους λάτρεις της φύσης, το Καρπενήδι είναι μια μικρή πόλη που βρίσκεται σε μία απομονωμένη και αραιοκατοικημένη περιοχή της Κεντρικής Ελλάδας που ονομάζεται η “Μικρή Ελβετία της Ελλάδας”».
6. Μέτσοβο
«Βρίσκεται σε ένα υψόμετρο 1.200 μέτρων στην καρδιά της μεγαλοπρεπούς οροσειράς της Πίνδου στην Ηπειρο. Το Μέτσοβο είναι αναμφισβήτητα ένα από τα πιο γραφικά χωριά της Ελλάδος».
7. Βέροια
« Η Βέροια προσφέρει έναν πλούτο πολιτιστικών εμπειριών από τις θαυμάσιες βυζαντινές εκκλησίες και τα σημαντικά μνημεία, όπως το Βήμα του Αποστόλου Παύλου, μέχρι την ιστορική Μακεδονική και Οθωμανική αρχιτεκτονική, με τα ελικοειδή πλακόστρωτα δρομάκια και πλατείες».
8. Ξάνθη
«Βρίσκεται στη Θράκη, σε ένα σταυροδρόμι μεταξύ Ευρώπης και Ασίας, η Ξάνθη είναι γνωστή ως “η πόλη με τα 1.000 χρώματα” για τη ζωντανή της πολυπολιτισμική της ατμόσφαιρα».
9. Γαλαξίδι
«Η γραφική παραθαλάσσια πόλη του Γαλαξιδίου βρίσκεται στα βόρεια του Κορινθιακού Κόλπου στην κεντρική Ελλάδα. Το παραθαλάσσιο μέτωπό της και οι πολύχρωμοι δρόμοι της είναι διακοσμημένοι με υπέροχα διώροφα κτίρια, ζεστά μικρά καφέ και ελληνικές ταβέρνες».
10. Άγιος Νικόλαος
« Η πόλη πήρε το σημερινό της όνομα έπειτα από τη βυζαντινή εκκλησία του Αγίου Νικολάου που χτίστηκε τον 9ο αιώνα. Είναι το νησί για το οποίο γράφτηκε το βιβλίο της Βικτόρια Χίσλοπ “Το Νησί”».

Beautiful Coastal & Mountain Driving In Greece - Peloponnese
Today we started in Paralio Astros and drove down the East coast of the Peloponnese to Monemvasia. Along the way there were some AMAZING coastal and mountain views. Monemvasia is a very romantic little town, we didn’t film anything while we were there because we only had a short time and wanted to just enjoy the moment, but we recommend that you check it out if you’re that way.
From Monemvasia we headed inland and drove around the Southern end of the Taygetos Mountains. Tim LOVES mountains so he was in his element, plus he was having a ball driving all the windy roads. It’s a beautiful drive, probably not for those that get easily car sick though!
Our final destination was just outside of Kalamata, a small town called Paralia Vergas, where we checked into an airbnb. We’ll be here for 4 days exploring the Kalamata regions, Taygetos Mountains and of course swimming at all the local beaches!
In total we did 303 kms of driving in one day, through mountains and along the coast! We absolutely did not anticipate covering so much ground in one day, but we didn’t look up how far it was before starting our journey (maybe that was a good thing in the end though!). Even though we could have taken the motorways to get there quicker we preferred the journey we took. We’ve always dreamed of driving through rural Greece and today we did exactly that!

Proussos Monastery and traditional village, Karpenisi Eurytania | best of Greece
“Beautiful Byzantine monastery”
A very beautiful place to walk and take some good memories. You must visit it and take some photos from magic view that the place offering.
According to tradition, the foundation of the monastery is placed in the reign of the iconoclast emperor Theophilus (829-842 AD) and is linked to the adventures and the appearance of the holy icon of Virgin Mary from the Proussa of Bithynia (in Asia Minor) in the cave of this area.
The shelter of the icon is the exact location where the monastery was built, surrounded by a majestic and wild landscape. Today, the monastery is a place of pilgrimage believers from all over Greece.
The monastery of Panaghia Prousiotissa is built on a steep rock.
According to the tradition, it was founded in 829 by monks Dionysios and Timotheos, who brought with them the icon of Virgin Mary from Prousa in Asia Minor. However, it is more possible that the monastery was established between the 12th and 14th century.
It became a shelter for civilians during the Turkish occupation, at the same time G. Karaiskakis received treatment here. The monastery was destroyed and ransacked many times during the Turkish occupation and was set on fire by the Germans in 1944. You will find religious icons dating back to the 13th and 16th century as well as a library where many important relics are kept.
The Museum of the Proussos Monastery, where old ecclesiastical relics and personal items of Georgios Karaiskakis are kept.
You can also see the “steps” of Virgin Mary in Typoma, geologic formations that look like footprints. According to the tradition these are the footprints of Virgin Mary when she came from Prousa. You will also have the chance to see the lookout towers (“karaoulia”) of Karaiskakis above the Monastery of Panaghia Prousiotissa, which were built during the Revolution.
In Prousos, the “Agathidis’ Library” is also very interesting. The library was founded along with the middle school in 1880.
Discover local culinary treasures
All these sports activities on the mountain are definitely going to whet your appetite! Taste Evrytania country sausages with or without leek, local pies and river trout at nearby tavernas. Try the top quality organic prosciutto made of a black indigenous breed of swine, a delicacy which was known as ‘akrokolion’ in antiquity; nowadays it is produced at Prouso village. The product was awarded the second prize in the international gastronomic competition in Sicily, and the plant where it is produced is one of the sights in the area! If you are a cheese-lover, make sure you taste feta cheese as well as Tsalafouti, a local cheese. Tsipouro drink or mouro, a type of local drink whose taste is similar to tsipouro, will make a fine accompaniment to your meal. Trachanas, some herbal mountain tea and fragrant honey from fir forests in the area are products you should definitely add to your buys before leaving.
At the beautiful and impressive location that is shaped on the edges of the mountains Kaliakouda and Chelidona, on a rock with an enchanting view and a location with strategic importance, is built the historic Monastery of Panagia Prousiotissa or Monastery Proussos. It is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin and is one of the few monasteries that survive in Evrytania, but also one of the most important pilgrimages of Sterea Ellada (Central Greece), since the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary attracts a lot of visitors throughout the year.
The foundation of the monastery is related to the miraculous icon, which is considered the work of Luke the Evangelist. According to tradition, in the period of iconoclasm, in the first half of the 9th century, in the years the last iconoclast emperor Theophilus, a new nobleman, in order to save the icon attempted to transfer it from Proussa to Greece. However, the icon disappeared in a strange manner and some years later, the shepherds in the area found it in a cave at Proussos, where it is kept even today, inside a chapel.
