1. Illikkal Kallu Kottayam
Illikkal Kallu is a major attraction in Moonnilavu village of Meenachil taluk in the Kottayam district of Kerala, India. Situated 6000 feet above sea level, Illickal Kallu is a rock situated above Illickal Mala. What makes this rock unique is that half of the rock has fallen off, and only the other half remains. The nearest town to this spot is Teekoy. Numerous mountain streams in this peak, flow down to form the Meenachil River. Tourists must trek <1 km to reach the summit of the peak. Illikkal Kallu comprises three hills, each rising to 4,000 ft above sea level. Each of the hills has a peculiar shape. One of them resembles a mushroom, which is why it is known as Kuda Kallu . The Vaikom Mahadeva Temple is a temple for the Hindu god Shiva in Vaikom, Kerala. The temple, along with Ettumanoor Siva Temple, Kaduthuruthy Thaliyil Mahadeva Temple is considered a powerful trisome. The belief is that if a devotee worships at these three temples before 'Ucha pooja', all the wishes are fulfilled. Marmala Waterfall lies a few kilometres away from Erattupetta, in Kottayam district, Kerala, India inside a private estate, . It is exactly 8 km from Teekoy. The road from Mangalagiri to Marmala Waterfall is currently under construction and solling is completed recently only. Once reaching the base station, one has to trek through the estate over the slippery rocky path inorder to reach the waterfalls. Marmala waterfall is about 60 metres in height, falling into a 12-meter deep pool and joins the River Teekoy way down.

This video was captured during my trip from Kumarakom to Kottayam Railway station and shows some parts of the Kottayam town - famously known as the land of letters.

Kottayam is the headquarter town of its namesake district - Kottayam. The town is known for its literary heritage and is home to some of the first newspapers and literary works of modern Kerala. It is also famous for its large Christian population known as the Kottayam achayans. Kottayam also happens to be my hometown :D

One of the most sought after one-day destinations in Kottayam is the Illikkal Kallu (Illickal Kallu. It is a majestic peak which has a part of its shorn off. A trek for 3km from Erattupetta along the steep hilly road takes you to Illikkal Kallu and is the best viewpoint destination in the district.
