Kashmir is just like a Himalayan Paradise on the earth. Some of the famous places to visit in Kashmir are Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Yousmarg. Srinagar is the capital and heart of Kashmir. There are various gardens and lakes in Kashmir. Wular and Dal lake are the famous lakes in Kashmir. When it floods in spring ans summer, the Wular lake reaches 260 square km in size making it one of the largest lakes in India. In winter, it decreases considerably in size.
The valley of Kashmir is known all over the world for its beauty and charm. The Kashmir valley is situated about 300 km. from Jammu across forested ravines and steep mountain passes. The emerald valley of Kashmir is cradled in the Himalayas, under the crystal blue skies, against the background of snow-capped mountains. It is a magic land of silvery streams, rivers, fresh water lakes, pine, deodar and chinar forests, snow clad mountains, sparkling waterfalls, shikaras, green meadows and grassy slopes full of flowers of vibrant colours. It is an oval plateau over 5000 feet high and framed by three Himalayan ranges – the Karakoram, Zanskar and Pir Panjal. Kashmir covers an area of 222,236 square kms and is often referred as the 'Switzerland of the East'. It is the land of bewitching beauty with exotic fruits, flora and flowers. Srinagar, the capital of Kasmir is nestled amidst the huge lakes, meadows and unique floating gardens in the valley. The state of Kashmir is mainly dominated by the Muslims and Kashmiris. Located at an attitude of 8,000 feet (2,400 m), the place is a real treat for visitors as you get to see real village life – people still living in log and wooden houses.The stream flowing from Kishan Ganga River and a must-watch Habba Khatoon peak will only help you relieve your mind of the noisy city and its hustle and bustle.
The simple music coming out of the flute of an unseen shepherd tending to his flock will keep you mesmerizedAfter enjoying a travel of 46 kilometers from Bandipore town, the Razdan Pass, which boasts of rolling meadows, welcomes you. Spending some time at this pass makes one to forget everything for a moment. The pass crosses through highest meadow in the journey and is a perfect picnic spot with tall pine trees rising majestically on the ridges. Several acres of rolling meadows on the top seem to be touching the sky while on a rainy day the clouds embrace the placethe forward journey form Razdan Pass is down-slope and an entry into Diwar village of Gurez Valley. Diwar is a plain area surrounded by mountains from all four sides.
In the middle of this plane, Habba Khatoon peak will catch your eyes. It is around this peak that Habba Khatoon used to room around thus named after her. The Diwar village will let you see the real Kashmir as the people especially women still wear traditional Kashmiri dress, houses are wooden mostly erected from big logs and most households have cattle.The Kishan Ganga River flows through the village and is amicable for rafting. The visitors can stay for night also as Tourism Department has constructed beautiful Dak Banglow and Tourist Reception Centre building on the foothills. Gurez Valley has its own market where few hotels have also come up.
HOW TO REACH:
Gurez Valley is at a distance of 123 kilometers from Srinagar and 86 kilometers from the Bandipore district in North Kashmir. From Srinagar, the trip to this picturesque valley in a cab takes 6 to 7 hours. Given the nature of curvy roads carved out of mountains, mostly private transport plies on the route to Gurez. The journey is a treat with pine trees on both sides of the road refreshing visitors with its cool breeze.
Alternatively, you can avail Chopper services from Srinagar/Bandipore at very nominal prices with a total journey duration of not more than 20 mins.

Lolab valley of Kashmir is known as the Land of Love and Beauty. The beautiful valley is 114 km away from Srinagar. You can reach Lolab Valley directly from Srinagar by car. The cab fare is Rs 3000-4000 per day. The gorgeous valley is situated at an altitude of 5500 feet above the sea level and it is 25 km long and 5 km wide. According to the legend, once famous Hindu Sage Rishi Kashyap worshipped God and practiced his rituals in this valley. And for this reason, this Indian state is named after him- Kashmir.
The main locality of the valley is Sogam. But the tourist lodge of Lolab Valley is located in Chandigam area. Surrounded by pine and far trees, Chandigam is a beautiful place and is quite popular for agricultural work. Plenty of rice and corn grows in this place.
Main places to visit in Lolab valley are:
Lalkul and Dalkul River: The two rivers flow through the valley.
Lovenag waterfall: This stunning waterfall is located in Andarboog village in Lalpora
