Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains in Essex County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,521.The village of Lake Placid is near the center of the town of North Elba, 50 miles southwest of Plattsburgh. Lake Placid, along with nearby Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake, comprise what is known as the Tri-Lakes region. Lake Placid hosted the 1932 and the 1980 Winter Olympics. Lake Placid also hosted the 2000 Goodwill Games, the 1972 Winter Universiade and will host the 2023 Winter Universiade.

    The Adirondack is a higher-speed passenger train operated daily along the Empire Corridor by Amtrak between New York City and Montreal. The trip takes approximately 11 hours to cover a published distance of 381 miles , traveling through the scenic Hudson Valley and the Adirondack Mountains. The Adirondack operates as train 68 towards New York, and as 69 from New York to Montreal. The Adirondack service is financed by the New York State Department of Transportation. The Adirondack trains suffer from numerous delays along the route because almost none of the trackage is owned by Amtrak, and also because the route crosses an international boundary where Immigration procedures can take up to two hours. The on-time performance of the route averaged 64.8% for the year ending June 2016. According...
