  • 1. Caverns of Sonora Sonora Texas
    The Caverns of Sonora, a National Natural Landmark, is a unique cave located 8 miles west of the small city of Sonora, the seat of Sutton County, Texas. It is a world-class cave because of its stunning array of calcite crystal formations, especially helictites. These helictites are found in extreme abundance, often with a rare purity and complexity. One formation is so densely packed with them, it has been dubbed the snake pit. The founder of the National Speleological Society, Bill Stephenson, said of the cave after his first visit: This is the most indescribably beautiful cave in the world, its beauty cannot be exaggerated, not even by a Texan.

    Boquillas del Carmen, frequently known simply as Boquillas, is a village in northern Mexico on the banks of the Rio Grande. It is the northernmost populated place in the municipality of Ocampo, which lies within the Mexican state of Coahuila. Situated next to the Mexico–United States border, visitors on foot from the United States can enter the village via the Boquillas Port of Entry and tourism is the principal industry in Boquillas. The village lies immediately west of the northern part of the Sierra del Carmen mountain range and at the south-west end of the Rio Grande's Boquillas Canyon. Boquillas del Carmen was founded as a mining town in the late 19th-century, after valuable minerals were found in the nearby mountains. Mining ceased in 1919 and the population rapidly declined.

    Seminole State Park and Historic Site is located on US Route 90, east of the Pecos River High Bridge, 9 miles west of Comstock in Val Verde County in the U.S. state of Texas. The park is conducive to camping, biking, bird watching, back packing and archeological study. Cave art and archeological artifacts date back to the earliest human habitation in the area. The park is part of the larger Seminole Canyon Archeological District on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Val Verde County, Texas.
