Leelanau County is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 21,708. The county seat was until recently the unincorporated community of Leland. On 3 August 2004, county voters approved a proposal to move the county seat to Suttons Bay, closer to the county's geographic center. In 2008, the county offices completed their move to a new government center built on 45 acres of county-owned land, one mile east of the unincorporated village of Lake Leelanau, where a new county law enforcement center was completed.     South Manitou Island is located in Lake Michigan, approximately 16 miles west of Leland, Michigan. It is part of Leelanau County and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The uninhabited island is 8.277 sq mi in land area and can be accessed by a ferry service from Leland. Guided tours on open-air vehicles are available to visitors, but most traffic is on foot. Larger North Manitou Island lies to its north. The island is 3 miles wide and 3 miles long. It is part of an island chain that extends north to the Straits of Mackinac. The island consists of a ridge of tilted layers of limestone, buried under a blanket of glacial debris. Glaciers carved out the Lake Michigan basin.     The Cana Island lighthouse is a lighthouse located just north of Baileys Harbor in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. Currently used as an active navigational aid under the jurisdiction of the United States Coast Guard and a museum, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, as reference #76000201. This lighthouse, along with the Baileys Harbor Range Lights, was built to replace the Baileys Harbor Lighthouse in 1869, and was first lit in 1870. The lighthouse and keeper's quarters are open to tour by the Door County Maritime Museum.
