The city is situated in the valley of the Meuse, in the east of Belgium, not far from borders with the Netherlands and with Germany . At Liège, the Meuse meets the River Ourthe. The city is part of the sillon industriel, the former industrial backbone of Wallonia. It still is the principal economic and cultural centre of the region. 1. Curtius Museum Liege
The Curtius Museum is a museum of archaeology and decorative arts, located on the bank of the Meuse River in Liège, classified as a Major Heritage of Wallonia. It was built sometime between 1597 and 1610 as a private mansion for Jean Curtius, industrialist and munitions supplier to the Spanish army. With its alternating layers of red brick and natural stone, and its cross-mullioned windows, the building typifies the regional style known as the Mosan Renaissance. After a 50 million euro redevelopment, the museum reopened as the Grand Curtius in March 2009, now housing the merged collections of four former museums: the museum of archeology, the museum of weaponry, the museum of decorative arts, and the museum of religious art and Mosan art. Espérance-Longdoz was a coal mining and steel production company located in the Liege region of Belgium. The company merged with Cockerill-Ougrée-Providence in 1970 to form Cockerill-Ougrée-Providence-Espérance Longdoz , later being merged into Usinor, then Arcelor then ArcelorMittal. Production at Longdoz ceased in the latter part of the 20th century, the factory site was redevelopend in the 2000s into a shopping complex Médiacité, one part of the buildings at Longdoz has been preserved and is now the home of an industrial museum La Maison de la Métallurgie et de l'Industrie de Liège. A later steelworks development, built at Chertal in the 1960s is still in operation and is part of the ArcelorMittal group, within the Liege division.

Join us as we discover the beautiful and historical city of Liège! From medieval era structures to a vibrant night-life, Liège has something for everyone to enjoy! We visited the Foire de Liège or the Foire d'Octobre which goes on through the month of October and feasted on some local delicacies such as Lacquemant (thin waffles soaked in maple syrup) and Sea-snails in a savory and spicy broth, perfect on a brisk October day. We also got the chance to walk through Liège City Hall (Hôtel de Ville de Liège) and saw their celebrations of the Liège Light Festival or Nocturne des Côteaux).
